Work programme lone parents.

Hi just wondered if anyone knows the rules for lone parents and work programme courses. I am being sent on one that finishes at half three and five miles from home, but my sons school finishes at ten past three. Can they force me to put my son with a childminder or will i be sanctioned if i refuse. Thanks.

If they are paying for it they can make you attend the course and if not then no as you should not be put of pocket at all on the wp

  • Ok thanks. Yes they will probably pay. Just think its unfair to give a weeks notice and expect me to find childcare in that short a time.

Actually they havent told me anything. Just recieved a letter in the post saying the course name and date. I have had to ring around to find out where and what other dates the course is on. I presume they will pay for childcare. If not i cant do the course.

Never assume they will pay for anything.

You need to tell them you can not do it as you have children you have to get from school and see what they say but do it now

Even better take the child to the course with you and keep him/her with you for the entire course. I don't think they would pay for child care.
  • Hi, I've just been put on the seetec work programme, & I'm a lone parent, not sure if its the same as what your on but I was told I have to work 30 hours a week in a shop and apparently they pay for child care. I rang seetec today and was told that if you have children your only supposed to work 20 hours a week, unsure if this is correct.
  • If anyone is with seetec on the mandatory work programme and you are a lone parent, please can you let me know the ours you have to work, as have been told 30 hours a week, but was then told by seetec that I only have to work 20 hours as I have children. I need to know incase I need organise childcare, thank you
