Tax efficient second earnings.
Hi there, I'm after a bit of advice from any tax / money savings experts, firstly let me describe my situation. I currently work full time and pay tax PAYE (I'm in the 40% bracket if that makes a difference), as a way of earning extra funds I'm considering taking on a second job as a software developer / consultant which I…

Which is better? Four days in well paid job I hate or seek something new?
I have a dilemma. My job is well paid, to the extent that I can afford to drop a day and do four days a week. But I hate it! I am doing very menial work that I spent years building a career so that I wouldn't have to do. I wouldn't mind so much if this was balanced with higher level, more challenging stuff, but it isn't.…

Anyone help with self assessment tax return?
Hello I wondered if anyone could help explain what happens after your tax return? Husband was self employed for about 3 weeks at the end of the tax year, so had to do his self assessment return. For those weeks he paid 20% tax to his UTR. Before that he was employed, so paid tax through PAYE. When we did the return online,…

Is travelling expense
A reasonable excuse to turn down a job. Is a bad job better than no job at all?
What do you think? I came across this youtube video on the subject, Going to a job day in day out you hate, possibly on minimum wage with no job security. The only upside is its supposed to be easier to get another job when you already have one, hasn't been experience in the past though. Basically the above video says…

CV Advice
2mths into my new job and I've been made redundant. Not just me - it's cost cutting across the businee. A planned expansion was undermined by poor results from a period of business that I had no influence upon. :( I now find myself looking for work in a saturated market - high number of insolvencies recently mean there are…

I had an interview back in early January for which I was told I could claim up to £50 in travel expenses. Now 11 weeks later and I still haven't had anything from them.
