Part time working agreed, now said no.

Hello

Just after some advice.

I am currently on maternity leave, baby due this week. It was agreed before my leave started that I would be able to return 3 days a week. Now I have just had a phone call to say that i can't.

Is this allowed?

Rather confused as it was all agreed. I work for the council if that helps.

Thanks

  • I believe they have to give you a reasonable business related reason as to why you can't have the flexible working you've asked for. So if in some way the business or your colleagues would be affected by you not working full time, then they can say no but they do need to explain why they've refused. I think under the rules as well you have to put your request in writing.

I think this is correct as we just had somebody return from mat leave where I work & she has come back part time.

I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable will correct me if i'm wrong.
