Notice for Temporary Work
Bit of advice please :) I started a temporary role in retail in early November but have now been offered a perm job with far better prospects. Verbally resigned yesterday and will take in the written one today. They are saying I need to do 2 weeks notice which after only being in role for 3 weeks seems OTT. I can start in…

Speculative job chat - how to act?
Hi guys, I'm hoping you sensible lot could help give me some pointers for a sort-of interview next month. A bit of background: I've been in my current job for five years, and while I love the work and get on well with my immediate team I dislike the wider company and the overall direction it appears to be heading in. So…

Lack of Interest despite 20 years experience
I was recently made redundant by one of the large banks who are part owned by the tax payer and have been looking for work since the end of August. My background is entirely in IT and I have a huge amount of experience and knowledge but due to the way my career panned out I don't have any formal qualifications. I was in a…

My holiday pay doesn't add up. Have i been 'shorted'?
Ok, at my work, my annual leave pay is calculated based on an average of the previous 12 weeks pay (all gross). Add up the previous 12 weeks gross, divide by 12 to give you your weekly pay, divide by 5 to give you your daily. That is how it's been worked out (for me) for YEARS! This applies to holiday that i take at any…

Misinformed by employer about how much holiday I had left and pay deducted!
Hi, I recently moved on from a job after 2 years employment. I asked my manager how much holiday I was entitled to if I left on the 27th November. He emailed HR who calculated what I could take. We sat down and fit in the hours before my last day and still had 1.5 hours holiday to be paid to me in my final payslip. (It was…

Paying off student loan despite earning less then £15,000
Hello, Second thread of the day. When I took my student loan I remembered being told that I would only start paying back money when I am earning over £15,000 a year (I started my degree in 2003). At the moment I only earn around £13,000 a year. Where I currently work there was the opportunity to do overtime for a two…
