Jobseeking & Operation

Hi all, long time reader and first time poster here. You all seem a friendly and knowledgeable bunch so I hope this is OK to post here.
I've been unemployed for three months and this morning I got a letter from the hospital saying that the operation I desperately need will be happening on the 12th of January. It has been estimated that after the op I will need 4-6 weeks to recover.
It hasn't come at a good time if I'm honest. As I am in receipt of JSA and housing/council tax benefit, there is a £100 shortfall on the rent and I am scraping around to pay for bills and food on top of that. I'm financially struggling (I set up a balance sheet that currently shows that I am paying £50pm more than is coming in) and really need to work.
However, I also need to have the operation or I will have complications later in life.
I'm confused. I'm currently applying for jobs in my field, and am preparing myself to explain myself during interview processes.
Is there any advice that anybody out there can give? Any help is appreciated

What won't you be able to do during the recovery period?
Would you be able to go to interviews and then perhaps start a job at the end of the recovery period if the Doc says everything is OK?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
It is a colonoscopy (My second in a year). The last one left me in hospital for a week, bed-bound for two weeks as it was painful to walk and then another couple of weeks to completely heal.
EDIT: I guess so. I need the money ASAP, so would prefer to start work as soon as.0 -
a colonoscope is an investigation rather than an operation. If it left you so unwell you should speak to your doctor. I think you will be entitled to sick pay whilst you are unable to look for work. Have you spoken to the CAB to see if you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to? I wish you all the very best and I hope your recover is far more speedy than last time, and good luck with your job search.0
