Nearly debt free
Long-time lurker here, I guess for me its difficult posting in a new forum, especially when it comes to debt. My story, quite long: I took out a credit card with HSBC 10 years ago with a limit of £500 and an APR rate of 29.9%. I maxed this out within a couple of weeks and for years I was just paying the minimum amount. 4…

On the 2nd attempt It's looking like I've managed to manoeuvre myself to being in a position to get my debts settled. Will they / should they be "full and final".…

Monday 20th October - What small DFW things will you do today?
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym . But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when…

Mobile phone fraud victim
Hi, hope someone can help. My fiancee was contacted last month by a debt collection agency trying to collect over £2000 debt on a Vodafone mobile phone contract from Sept 2005 to May 2006 that was put in her name and her business. This was the first she knew of it and it was fraudulently done. She was in a relationship…

The best way to pay a debt collector
Hi, I have negotiated a partial settlement with Cabot Financial. What is the best way to pay the agreed amount safely? I would prefer not to use my own debit card or personal cheques as I am concerned my details may be used fraudulently. I have considered a bank transfer but I am hesitant in that they may deny that they…

SOA suggestions
I just wanted to see if anyone could suggest where I could cut back on our outgoings - I currently pay £350 a month extra to my credit card so it'll be repaid by June next year. The holiday fund might seem a bit excessive but both my parents and brother live a (different) plane journey away so it costs around £100 a time…

I have defaulted on 2 credit cards and a finance loan for a watch some time ago. All were actually caused by my ex-partner. He accepts responsibility for them and suggested they be transferred to his name. But I'm not sure that's possible? Any advice anyone can offer about this scenario please would be very much…

However I am now in a position to offer full and final settlements to the creditors. I did this about a week ago and all have said no. I offered them 50% and said it was from a…

Book Recommendations?
I did a quick search for this but came up blank. Does anyone have any recommendations on good books to read about becoming debt free? I'm not really looking for "how to"s, there's lots of brilliant info here already! I'm more interested in reading about people who have successfully broken free of debt, or who have…

Traffic camera ticket question
Hi all, I was snapped driving through a poorly sign posted junction in London. They then sent a letter whilst I was on holiday. As a result my reply was a few days late. The council replied and correspondence continued. When it finally went to the adjudicator they stated That I had to pay as my reply had been late. I…

buying a car whilst still in debt
Dear all We have been doing a very VERY good job of paying of our debts, (I have to for my job). However, my inlaws and DHs family all live in Cornwell which is not easy and very expensive to access through public transport. Most of the grandparent generation are not in good health, and with several family weddings coming…

Wake up every morning feeling worthless
Hi, as above I wake up every morning feeling worthless. I often wonder if the only way out of this mess is to end it all. I go to bed worrying about debt and when I wake up my mind goes into overdrive and picks up where I left off. I'm hardly sleeping and my appetite is now affected which is probably a good thing as I'm…

Do creditors waiver interest on DMP
I've started a DMP with Step Change - 2 months in, about 24 more months to go! However, I've just moved from a fee charging DMP to SC and was advised by SC that there is a possibility that creditors may add interest. If they did this it would take me longer to pay off my debts! Can anybody advise me how to deal with this.…
