Could a secured loan be the way for us?
I've been reading through all of Martins info on Secured Loans this morning & i know they are evil & it would be increasing my debt at a high interest rate, but i'm wondering if we might be one of the small % that these loans are actually good for? I'll do my best to explain, we've been struggling for nearly a year, & now…

I got my last payment from my old job today, and they've only paid me…

Well, thats the end of our first month of money saving. We feel on top of the world this morning. It has only been 1 month but already our lives and our out look on life has begun to change. I'm sorry for going on, but I've never felt so in control of our finances and never felt so good about paying bills :rotfl: . I wish…

Utilising a number of accounts for your money - advice!

I have read about some of you having separate accounts to your main current account and having a standing order or direct debit each month transferring allocated amounts into each separate account…

DCA Question
Hey. Quick question, once a debt has been passed to a DCA, do they charge interest on it? I know they whack a load of fees and charges when they take on the debt, but after that, say you agree to repay it at £10 a month, does that amount also incur interest? Thanks in advance :)

Now we're in the poo!
I posted my soa and debts recently, and had some good advice etc. However, I forgot to take into account the overdrafts that we each have on our current accounts. And the trouble is, my husband was off sick for 2 weeks last month (a hernia operation) and therefore didn't work any overtime. So his wage was down £400 on it's…

Debt management
Hi, I'm new and not sure I'm in the right place?? Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong! In Dec 2001 we started an agreement with Payplan. We owed approx £19,500 (terrible I know). To date we have repaid £10,471.09, yet apparently we still owe £21,359.78. How can this be possible? They claim to try and get interest frozen, but…

Debt problems - questions about DMP and IVA
Hi all, I've read through countless posts on here and you all seem to offer a warm and wonderful support for all the people in similar situations to myself - in debt and scrambling like mad to get out of it. Here is a bit of background about me... I am 24 and have been working full time in a software developer role for…

Why do people get in debt?
Having read some of the posts on here, I got to wondering why/how people get in so much debt. I know there'll be 101 reasons/excuses, but if the causes of debt were talked about more openly, perhaps more people would be able to avoid it. Seeing that some people owe more than a year's salary on credit cards is really scary.…

Can't believe I mentioned this before now!!! I made the very last payment on my car today. It is now officially mine. :j :j :j Only debt now is £250 on cc and £1350 to credit union (well, I have a mortgage too and that will be tackled when the short-term lending is dealt with). These will be hit with the savings on the car…

Morally wrong? Or best in the long run?
Having a bit of a dilemma. What do you think? Our children have around £800 in savings in accounts that they've had years that pay (virtually) no interest. Was thinking of using money to take a big chunk off credit cards - will make debt free day a few months closer and apparently save £100 interest. Then when debt free…
