Immigration & debts
Hey all Following on from the thread below, I was wondering how having debts affect your chance of immigrating. I am currently looking into moving permanently to New Zealand but have 16k of debts. Am unsure of what I do or should I wait to I've cleared them before even considering to immigrate? Any suggestions are…

My husband's business has just gone down the pan and he is currently earning 0. He has just started a new job but it will be August before he gets any money that he…

I'm Back And This Time For Good
I joined mse in January became absolutely addicted to the site and money saving. For once shopping had no buzz for me and only saving money and not spending gave me a buzz. A snowballing question
Hi I'm new to the chat forum although have been coming on this brilliant site for a few months now. I have learned a lot from you all and Martin (have the book too!). My query is how can you snowball if you are only able to make the minimum payments each month on CCs? Am I right in understanding that snowballing is about…

Need Some Advice!
Now I know I always preach to others about selling all items you no longer need. Well.......I've got some books, autobiographys to be precise, that I don't NEED but would like to keep. For example I've got a copy of David Beckhams and Michael Owens, both signed, in hardback and unread. Had a look on ebay and Owen's is…

Old debts
Is it possible to contact a company regarding an old debt- I had honestly forgotten about it and have never been contacted about it and offer to pay them an amount to get it cleared. ie- my credit file is showing a debt for £900. If I offered them £450, would they accept this seeing as they have not even tried to get it…

the bring your own lunch rant
The 'bring your own lunch to work' discussion crops up quite often, but I just want to have a wee rant about this, as I bet my employers aren't the only ones to do this! We have a staff canteen, all subsidised by the company, but still not cheap in comparison to bringing your own. But heres whats really annoying. We don't…

Miffi's spending/saving diary....
Okay, after many attempts of trying to be good with money, I have finally given myself the kick where I'm needed. I've decided that instead of going into panic, I'm going to do something about it. I particularly need to find £1k (I owe a friend) pretty sharpish, so that is added motivation. Anyway, here goes. Today…

Apologies if this has been posted in the wrong place, but my DH has got himself 2 tickets for being in a bus lane. At the time, he was a courier driver. Writing off debts.
Reading through the National Debtline sample letters, I noticed one where you can ask a Creditor to write off your debt. Has anybody any experience of this and under what circumstances. For example roughly what debt owed whether a DMP had already been in operation. Any info you can give would be appreciated. Also does…
