I joined mse in January became absolutely addicted to the site and money saving. For once shopping had no buzz for me and only saving money and not spending gave me a buzz. I began to worship £2 coins and was so ridiculously tight I made everyone who know me laugh.
BUT......................
i stopped using this site as much, I still kept to quite a few of my new resolutions ie pigsback, mystery shopping, and free fivers, but my stupid spending has returned. I have just only tonight ordered £100 of new clothes for me and my OH, and we have got the money for these things so we are not adding to our debt but we aren't focusing on cutting it either.
We are fortunate and only have a relatively small debt that we had decided we could clear by dec 2007 and still live a reasonable standard, but the way we are going our debt will be the same in 2008 + interest.
I just wanted to write this so I have officially decided to get back on the wagon and turn into a tightarse again.
I'll be looking forward to everyones hints and tips to keep motivated and all the latest mad money making schemes I can join in with.
Thanks in advance

Welcome back batgirl! Climb back aboard the wagon!
We all fall off sometimes. But this site educates us...gets under our skin. So every time we fall off, we get back on board quicker and with less damage. If you let this site get under your skin, I believe it becomes like an instinctive thing to start questioning every penny you spend and completely natural to hunt for the best bargains available.
Anyway, welcome back and do keep coming back for hints & tips. have you got your spending diary up & running? If not, get that done for starters...! Best advice in the world. You have to know what your weak areas are then you can tackle them. Fore warned is fore armed and all that!Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Thankyou so much Looking Ahead what great advice. i know what are weaknesse are and thats making each other happy by doing nice things or buying nice things. I am very lucky and have a fantastic husband and two great boys and we really just like doing fun things together and mainly these things are cheap or free, but every now and then we go a bit crazy.
Thanks again

This month has probably been the worst for me in terms of reckless spending but I think it might be to do with the fact I got overtime which is almost non-existant!
My advice would be not deprive yourself of everything. If you want something - fair enough. Just make sure you have budgeted for it and even sleep on it and see if you still want it in the morning.
Welcome back by the way!0 -
Even if you just check here once a week to post your progress, you will see people are still here for you. I think its best (for me anyway) to set aside a certain date where you can just splurge. For me it July everyone is only getting minimum payments and the rest will go on home improvements and DS birthday. It makes the light at the end of the tunnel seem nearer. If I stuck to my tight budget till 2008 I'd fall off the wagon (maybe even give up) and spend money on crap for the sake of it.Barclaycard 3800

I always enjoy Queen B's posts when she tells us about her cheap or freebie nights in with the family/time spent together. They make me go all gooey inside as I am of the opinion that children are very happy when doing fun things together in the nurturing 'bosom' of the family home....spending loads of cash of the latest gadgets can't replace that warm feeling and the memories the children have when they look back on growing up in a warm, loving home even when money was very tight are priceless (I speak from experience).
Generally you forget the things you got for Christmas as a child but you'll always remember the fantastic christmas pudding your Mum made or when the family all came around and got drunk on home made punch etc etc etc...!
Oh I could reminisce all night....:rotfl:
Stick around on this site and the Old Style board as well and you will pick up loads of ideas for cheap/free ways to spoil each other I am sure.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Your post made me all gooey and reminiscent!!! You are absolutely right. We hardly ever had presents for Christmas but it was never an issue. We all had a lovely time having a beautiful dinner and then playing games until bed time. Very fond memoriesLeason learnt :beer:0
