Writing off debts.

Options
Reading through the National Debtline sample letters, I noticed one where you can ask a Creditor to write off your debt. Has anybody any experience of this and under what circumstances. For example roughly what debt owed whether a DMP had already been in operation. Any info you can give would be appreciated. Also does anybody know what percentage of a debt balance a creditor will sell the debt to a collection agency for.

Basically will only be written off if there is no realistic liklihood of there being any repayment at all

Thanks for your reply, thought things like this were a long shot and unlikely to be of any use for me.
Just having a bit of trouble from a creditor who wants a 1% of balance payment but all I can afford at the moment is just over half of that. They have turned me down twice even though I have increased my offer. I've now written to the manager of their Customer advice dept. Next step will be their internal complaint procedure the Financial Ombudsman.
Just sick of not being able to pay more.
Decided to use my push bike for work and reduce my petrol/running costs on the car and the bike broke and just had to pay out for that to be repaired, a mate did this at reduced cost, so struggling to save money to increase payments at the moment.
