HMRC trying to charge tax I've already paid!
First an apology, I am not a newbie to MSE, but I wish to keep the issues I am about to detail anonymous and separate from my normal account. Now the story: At the end of 2007 I left my job to spend time devoted to my passion of travel, mainly funded by the exercising of share options that were held in the USA - I have…

prescriptions
Sorry did not know where to put this Northern Ireland - prescriptions are free of charge. Scotland – the prescription charge is £3.00 and will be reduced further every year until 1st April 2011 when prescriptions will be free of charge. Wales – prescriptions are free of charge. England £7.20 Surely this is not fair.

Question on business mileage relief
My husband is employed and gets an annual car allowance on top of his salary (which gets taxed as income). This is not a company car through a company car scheme, which he could also have chosen. Tax Code query with an underpayment from previous year
I am totally confused over my tax code for 2010/11. I have medical insurance (£228) and an underpayment from previous tax year (£89 gym membership) so my tax free amount was £6475 - £228 - £89 = £6158. However, I still had gym membership (£557 on my 0910 P11D), so my tax code was amended in Dec 2010 to £6475 - 468 - 89 -…

Loss from previous years set off against income?
Hello I had a £457 loss from a small venture in 07/08. I managed to use £120 of it against income in 08/09 for the same business. That still left £337 unused loss. The business finished that year too. I was previously told that I could not offset that against anything else and it was just a loss confined to history.…
