in Cutting tax
I am after some free tax return software. I have got so far with my return and thought I could do it myself hence leaving it so late but now finding I need to double check my calculations.
Sorry if this has already been asked but had a search and couldn't find any recent advice on it.
Thanks

The HMRC site has free software on there you just go along and it works it all out
What are you struggling with, specifically? Can I help (I am an accountant so would be happy to advise if I can) publicly on here if it will help you and others0 -
Thanks so much. I am struggling. I have used the online HMRC form but am unsure about the process rather than anything. For example, I have losses to carry over from 2008-09 (I rent out two properties at a loss), and according to the calculator for income tax for 09-10, I have underpaid my income tax (through my salary) and owe a small amount. But can I offsett this against the losses from 08-09 (I also have losses for 09-10)?0

These notes tell you when you can and can't offset property losses against other income. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thanks Pam17, had a look at the notes, unfortunately they don't really help me answer the question of whether I need to pay anything to HMRC. I am tempted just to pay it to get the damned thing off my desk, it's only £170....0
