Trying to set up a payment for OH's tax PAO from our HBOS account, it does not like the account number given on the payment slip.

I have sort code " 57-80-06 " and account number " 157 8006 " which it says is a NatWest account (I also have the reference number), it also says " SA300 Cumbernauld "

Last year, January and July, I paid to 08-32-10 a/c 12001039 which was Cumbernauld too. That still seems to be a valid account

So I can see there is a digit less in the "new" a/c number. What should I do?

    This is the correct account.

Thanks, yes I think I will pay to there.

I have checked the NatWest acc no and sort code, they are valid too, but HBOS will not accept a 7 digit acc no.

There should presumably be a zero added somewhere, but where? I am not taking any chances!

    Is this the reason?
    Providing HMRC bank account details

You will need to provide your bank or building society with HMRC's bank account details. Please refer to the back of your payment reminder to check which of the Accounts Offices below is relevant for you. If you have not received a payment reminder and are unsure which Accounts Office details you should use please use the Cumbernauld details.
Please take care if you need to enter our bank account details. If you make a mistake with the sort code or account number there may be a delay before your record is credited or your payment may not be received at all.
When paying by internet or telephone banking you should only use the bank account details shown below and not the account number shown on the front of your HMRC payslip as this sort code is only for payments made by bank giro or at a Post Office.
    Accounts office
    Sort code
    Account number
    Account name
    Cumbernauld
    083210
    12001039
    HMRC Cumbernauld

Yes, that will be it. How odd!

Would have thought that you should be able to pay to where other payments go. Why do they need to complicate things?! Where did you find that information?

Well, I have paid it now......to the correct account, so one less thing to worry about.

Googled 'HMRC payments to Cumbernauld'. Clicked on first link. Then the 'Paying by internet or telephone banking' link, then halfway down that page.

Thanks. I googled "paying HMRC" and found a bit saying to pay Cumbernauld or Shipley as defaults, so payed Cumbernauld as that is what I have always done.

At least it is paid now. No escape if you are on SA.

For SA you can pay either office as the database is shared. The 'phone or Internet banking data is on the reverse of the payslip? The payslip front is set up for Giro / cheque payments.

It's clarified on the HMRC site :

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/payinghmrc/selfassessment.htm#5

HMRC accounts don't accept faster payments. So you're generally better paying via Billpay (Debit Card) or a one off Direct Debit. But the latter is easiest to use via SA online ..... and I seem to remember you suggesting OH has some problems there??

Yep, still shut out from on-line.

I have paid by BACS, it will go tomorrow, 3 working days, so should be fine. Only £300 odd, so not too worried anyway!!

Have you any opinion/info on my question here....?

Sorry - no. Tend to stay away from anything property / CGT related! :)
