Owe Tax after return but PAYE??
I have filled in my first tax return (09/10) as I have a flat that I rent out. I have two jobs that I pay tax on through PAYE, one is D0 tax which I take to mean I pay 40% on everything I earn there. The other has tax code 800L. I filled in my tax return (made a loss on the flat surprisingly!) and was shocked to see I owe…

Tax refund question
I've just received a letter from HMRC saying in 2008-2009 I paid £35 too much tax but there is no check included and no mention of how I will get it back. They have "helpfully" included a booklet which tells me how to pay them when an underpayment has occurred but nothing on an overpayment. What happens next?

Rules for payments on account
My husband has now totally stopped working so will have less income this tax year than last year. He noted this on his 2009/10 return as his additional income was from abroad and therefore paid gross. He had made POAs totalling £3700 in 09/10, which more than covered his additional liability here. Despite giving details of…

Pay SA tax through your tax code
Just filled in my first SA online - phew it was nice and easy! Except one question I wasn't sure about. I understand that if you owe less than £2,000 you can have this collected via the following year's tax code, rather than pay by lump sum. Firstly, is the option only available to those who have a PAYE job? Can I select…
