notification of new tax code

in Cutting tax
My pay this week was less than expected.
Turns out the tax code applied has changed from 647L to 139L.
I've received no communication from HMRC about this, just noticed the code on my payslip.
Shouldn't HMRC send out change notices to tax payers?

I echo the 'yes'.
But - I do recollect from a previous thread, several months ago, one of the HMRC people indicating that the new PAYE system has a tick box for issuing the customer copy! If true - a bit of a recipe for (non) issues. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

You sure you're not getting mixed up with my thread where a copy of the coding notice had not been sent to my employer as someone forgot to tick the box? I got a copy but my employer didn't.0 -

Today I am having a bad day! And I strongly suspect that is what is lodged in the alleged memory bank!
Apologies to the OP. But the gist remains ........ yes, you should have a copy of an in-year change on a P2 (Coding Notice)If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

The tick box is internal to the new PAYE (NPS) system within HMRC. (More likely - one of the inputs to it)
But - apologies - as Jem has correctly pointed out I suspect I've half remembered (the wrong half) that it was the other way around - and the employer was not notified.

Time to phone HMRC and find out.0 -

It seems the Pensions people sent HMRC a note of what I was entitled to receive. However, I'm not claiming it yet - so the code willl be corrected.0
