Tax Rebabe - Help Needed Please

in Cutting tax
Hi All;)
Thank you for taking the time to help me out.
Im new to this site and would like to some help regarding my tax.
I received a letter from HMRC around a month ago saying I needed to fill in my self assessment tax returns forms again for the years April 07 - April 08. April 08 -April 09 April 09- April 10.
In these years I have worked PAYE in some of my jobs and been self employed through CIS as a groundworker.
I rang the inland revenue up a week last Monday to request an employment sheet for each of the years above as I had a lot of agency work and cant remember everyone I have worked through.
I still havent got my employment sheet from the Inland Revenue so I rang them today. I was told it should arrive anyday now as it is sent out via the slowest post speed.
What I really would like to know is this please, When I get the forms through would it speed up the process of claiming any tax rebabes I may be owed if I booked an appointment at my local tax office which is Goole East Yorkshire. I thought if I book an appointment and take my forms in, they can help me fill everything out correctly and then everything will be on the system straight away instead of sending it off post which could take ages to process.
I havent worked a full year as agency work can be hit and miss at times so I think I will be entitled to some form of rebate. I paid tax while self employed via the CIS sceme and I have all my wage slips to prove this.
Thank you all and any reply and help is much appreciated.:T

For the last 2 years you can file them online and get a really quick rebate of any CIS tax overpaid. One to three weeks to a bank account you put on the tax return.
For the earlier ones it's going to be 4 months or so I am afraid. I suggest filling them in as soon as you can. Personally I'd be wary of relying on anything they say, I realise some HMRC folk will jump on me for saying that. But I have clients who got into a real pickle by relying on what turned out to be awful advice from HMRC on what number to put in what box. Having told them the wrong boxes, they then inspected my client because her tax return looked so odd!Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0 -
thank you for your reply
The problem I have is I dont know how to fill it in hence why I would like to go into my local tax offer for help filling it in online.
If I take in all my wage slips showing how much i earned per week and how much tax i paid each week, will they be able to tell me there and then how much rebate im entitled to?
thanks0 -
They will not be able to complete your SA for you. if you have all the info, can you not add it all up yourself - they may show you which box to put the totals in.0

I can add them all up once ive got my employment history sheets from the inland revenue.
Will my employment history im sent contain all my jobs including PAYE and CIS?
Also Chrismac 1 says I can claim my CIS back straight away, do I have to wait for my PAYE rebabe?
thank u0
