More MBNA doom for stoozers
Friend has just applied for MBNA virgin card @ 9 mths 0% and has been refused. On phoning to ask why, call centre member said it was because of his previous two 0% deals with other MBNA cards. "Its their new policy, which started this January." The other MBNA cards had been paid off, in full, at the end of the 0% term. No_6

Searches on your credit file. How many?
I believe I must have set some precedence around here. I have just racked up my 45th credit file search including the few from the CRA itself (Experian) on my quest at attaining current accounts and credit cards. Any regulars here ever manage anything remotely close to that and still get their application approved?

New moneysaver+need help
Hello I am working really hard to get out of debt and am totally committed to getting out off the bottom rung. I have read Martins book and the site and am sure that if I get savvy, I can reduce the interest I am paying and get clear quicker. I spoke to a great person at Payplan who assured me that I didn't need to go on a…

NSPCC CARD (What do they get?)
I'm not sure about the stoozability of the NSPCC Mastercard but considering it offers 0% on BT's and purchases it's ideal for a general use credit card, that I want it for.... http://www.nspcc.org.uk/html/Home/Donating/donating.htm However I was reading through all the benefits...thinking...yeah great.... nice.... that…

Chip and Pin @ McDonalds
I recently used my Switch card to pay for some food in McDonalds. However they never asked for my Pin Number nor asked me to sign a voucher. However the money was taken from my account. I spoke to Clydesdale, (my bank) I said they should not of authorised the transaction, they said, they were obliged to as it had been…

Accumulating a balance to transfer!?
Apologies, I'm new to this part of the site and am pretty sure I'm about to ask a stupid question. I have a 'Goldfish' credit card and pay the normal 'few hundred' pound monthly balance off in full by direct debit. The idea of having, say, ten thousand pounds on a 0% card while the money earns interest appeals but how do I…

MBNA SBTs charge to move Credit balance??
Hi moneysavers, I've just read Martin's book, and i'm all fired up and inspired, and I'm systematically going thru everything. Already involved in cc shuffling, and I wondered if anyone can tell me if MBNA - who charge 2% for BTs (except on opening) will still charge this to do a SBT for a balance in credit? They have some…

Halifax Credit Card
On 17 Dec I thought I paid off my CC by internet. Last week I received my statement and the amount I'd paid wasn't showing as paid and that I was being charged a late fee of £25. I called them and my bank and realised that I hadn't put in my 16 digit card number so they could allocate the money to my account, and that it…

Did you know? Credit card companies give you one free hit.
Credit card companies aren't renowned for being generous beasts. There are whole stacks of fines piled up for different things. Miss a repayment - they fine you. Go over your credit limit - they fine you. Miss paying off the card in full by just a few pence - they effectively fine you the months interest. However, don't…

First Direct Black to Gold to Black
This is probably a bit cheeky, but my husband and myself have just converted our black First Direct Credit Cards to Gold. Has anyone else done this, and six months later asked to transfer back to Black? If you have did they give you another six months interest free? This would be really neat, if you could just keep…

Which companies give high credit limits?
I'm looking to find a new lender that may give at least £10k credit limit on a new credit card application. I want to ensure each credit check provides as much "bang for buck" as possible. Some of the comments I've seen in other threads suggests some of the lenders, eg Tescos only ever give small limits. I have good credit…

need to borrow - whats the best way
I have just recieved planning permission in relation to an extension at my house. I am looking at about £18000 costs to have the work done. I have had a little idea that I might try to put a lot of this on an interest free credit card (all of it ideally but the credit limit probably wont cover it) and pay about £500 a…

Taking cash out on credit card
I went to see Green Day last night, and I didn't want to take all my cards with me. But when I got there, I found I'd taken my credit card rather than my debit card. I needed cash, so I took some money out from an ATM, intending to pay it back today to avoid much interest. Except I've just checked my statement online, and…

Egg Card Appeal
I applied for an Egg Green on Thursday but was declined. I sent an e-mail off saying I would be able to send off documentation such as bank statements and pay slips for a year and evidence of my savings accounts (£15000 in all spread between an ISA and a notice account). Got a phone call this afternoon from an underwriter…
