Which companies give high credit limits?

Options
I'm looking to find a new lender that may give at least £10k credit limit on a new credit card application. I want to ensure each credit check provides as much "bang for buck" as possible. Some of the comments I've seen in other threads suggests some of the lenders, eg Tescos only ever give small limits. I have good credit history and as a new customer to Virgin (MBNA) was recently able to get an initial £11k increased to £16k over the phone.

Can anyone recommend anyone? I already have EGG & First Direct cards by the way.

American Express Green, Gold, Platinum and Centurion Chargecards do not have spending limits (that's the Chargecagrds NOT the Amex Credit Cards)

    LOL :)

Not at all connected to the question ;)

Okay as for high credit cards.

    I would go for................

    MBNA
    Amex Gold Credit Card
    Halifax One.

Should keep you busy for a while ;)
  • MBNA (and their associates such as Virgin) always give generous limits. Be careful though as if your after swapping a balance onto a 0% MBNA card then make sure the card you are moving it from is not issued by MBNA (virgin for one example) as they won't do it.

LTSB give good limits if you bank with them. I got a 32k limit with LTSB Platinum @ 0% for 6 months :-)
To Stooze or Not To Stooze - Theres only one option :D
  • I could name some that have given me a low limit
    Barclaycard 0% BT for 12 months £1300
    Sainsburys 0% BT for 9 months £1100
    Nationwide cashback £2200 aftera haggle

Halifax (Royal bank of Scotalnd) rejected me

    Moderate
    First Direct 0% 6 months £4800
    MBNA 0% 9 months £3800

    Highish
    LloydsTSB 0% 12 months £15.000
    Abbey cashback £9000.00

All a bit hypothetical as depends on your earnings, the order in which you apply for the cards and your credit rating...
  • Thanks Smartsaver

Is there any problem applying for multiple cards from MBNA managed companies, eg Virgin and Abbey? I got a Virgin card in Dec 2004 and wonder if Abbey would give me a reasonable limit.
  • I have an Abbey current account and transferred the credit limit from a paid up MBNA card. I am looking to see how creative I can be with the £9000.00!! Otherwise it will be canx and onto something new...
  • MBNA seem to have an overall limit which they won't go above. MBNA gave me £13.5K. When I applied for Virgin 3 months later they knocked me back quoting amount o/s on other MBNA cards.
    Ethical moneysaver
  • You do need to pay one MBNA card before they will give you another in most cases.

in the summer i managed to get £12000 on egg, £6000 abbey, £6000 Alliance & leicester and £6000 MBNA. Previously i only had a single CC (tesco) which i cleared every month.
I brought £30,000 of premium bonds which win about £150 every month! (6% return). I even borrowed the miserly £3500 from brclaycard which sits in my online saver and actually covers the monthly repayments.
i thought it would be a challenge to offload the debts onto new cards but have managed to get £5500 with nationwide, £15,000 with lloydstsb advance card, £3500 with HSBC and £4000 with capital one!!!!
