Friend has just applied for MBNA virgin card @ 9 mths 0%
and has been refused.
On phoning to ask why, call centre member said it was because
of his previous two 0% deals with other MBNA cards.
"Its their new policy, which started this January."
The other MBNA cards had been paid off, in full, at the end of the 0% term.

Mr Smartsaver paid of his MBNA card on 23 Dec. He tried to renew the deal to no avail so canx the card in Jan 05. He applied as a new customer for a virgin card and was given one with a slightly higher very respectical limit of £18300.00 which is now winging it's way to an EGG account.
I have just paid off my MBNA card in full and have transferred the limit to my current Abbey. I intend to ring up in a day or two to see what deals they can offer me. If they can't they the account will be closed. There are more fish in the sea....0 -
Not at all suprised. I just can't see how their business model works. What's the betting they impose a 2% min payment soon?
They're definitely feeling the heat at the moment - 100 redundancies announced here in Chester only last week.Ethical moneysaver0 -
Might be something to do with the cash back on the A/L card. Lots will canx..0

Mmmm. This rings true. I cancelled a MBNA platinum card a few weeks ago and then applied for an Abbey card. Just had a refusal letter.0

Definitely belt tightening, maybe under gov pressure. I successfully applied for an Alliance & L. card, only to be told 2 weeks later that they had cancelled my Abbey card  , because I hadnt used it in last 12 months.
When I complained the said they had phoned me, but had not got an answer. When asked why message not left on answering machine, told not company policy.
I suggest the best way forward is to open a small savings account, with the desired next tart-card's company. You will be treated with more respect as a current customer when appyling for their cc.
Banco Santander are going to push the Abbey card, so if you have an Abbey account I can't see Mbna being able to turn you down.
ScatMoi....?

I've banked with Abbey for years so I thought I wouldn't have any trouble getting their card. To be honest, I suspect that MBNA make the decision, not Abbey.0 -

If you are a shareholder, they, (Banco ) have promised a deal on Abbey Card soon. No info yet, but this could get interesting as I will be jumping ship in September and it may have to be Egg then.Moi....?
