Nationwide use of overdraft fee query
Does anyone know if Nationwide will still count 'use' of a 'reserve' overdraft (a chargeable event, I believe) if you make an outgoing payment exceeding your agreed overdraft but immediately (i.e. same day) rectify and bring the account under the agreed overdraft or even back to in-credit? I ask because I've done just that…

Nationwide FlexAccount
I have recently opened a flex account to get a better rate on my mortgage. I was given a £1000 overdraft facility. However i am confused because this overdraft does not show in my available balance. Surely if i have £500 pound in my account it should say: Balance £500 Available balance £1500 But both balance and available…

New Santander online platform
So last night I logged in, and was asked if I'd like to upgrade to the new platform. Yes says I. One setting of an image, and some challenge questions, and a quick log out and back in again and there it is. Must say it looks pretty, if a bit busy, but I'm not struck by what's changed. The alerts feature is good (will be…

In this a universal(ly) (annoying) banking policy??
Its not often I make a large withdrawal but on the last few occasions I have, the bank staff member has asked me what I'm spending the money on. This has happened at 3 separate banks over the last year or so. I don't mind small talk but i'd rather it wasn't about my personal finances in the middle of a busy bank, first…

Happy about the bank charges !
The reason of the banks accounts being free in the UK is that the banks charge a high charges for unauthorised overdraft. I had a customer, complaining about an overdraft charge of £25. WHEN i've looked in to his account, I've found out that he has drawn the money from his already overdrawn acccount, which has therefore…

Piggybanking - matching salary to payments
I just read the article on piggybanking which seems like it will work very well for me. However, right now, I get my salary in on the last day of every month, then we get varied payments during the month for my wifes disability and incapacity. Most of the bills get paid on the 1st of the month. I am just wondering if…

Remortgaging and changing banks
I'm due to complete my remortgage with Woolwich at the beginning of next month. I really want to change my main bank account and am waiting for my First Direct application form after a referral on these boards. I'm just after some advice on timing and credit checks on remortgaging and opening a bank account. When will each…

Misseling banks .... How about unfair customers?
When I was a customer services officer, the bank I work at has introduced a Fixed rate ISA. However you were only able to upgrade your existing ISA(paying rubbish rate) to the new Fixed ISA if you have a fee paying account. I hve been approached by a couple in their early 70s to discuss their savings, who had a free…

Santander and Wescot
Hi all, I was just wondering if someone would be able to give me some advice about Santander and Wescot. I had an A&L current account a bit back with an arranged overdraft. I stopped using the account as my main account but left it open with a small but fluctuating o/d that was well within the agreed limit. I was being…

Problems with Nationwide account switching service
I decided to change to Nationwide after 30 years with RBS (Williams & Glyns at the time of opening) and used their account switching service. I was warned that my direct debits could come out of either account for the first month, which I was prepared for by using the overdrafts that I already had available. What I wasn't…

Joint cheque in single name bank account?
Can this be done. We were married on saturday and have recieved quite a few cheques in joint names. We keep our accounts seperate and providing ID to put my partner on my account seems a bit unfair as this is how we happily conduct our finances. Also apart from the marriage certificate providing ID will prove difficult at…

Bank account without regular salary
I'm going to Uni as a mature student in September. I'm taking voluntary redundancy and have a fair bit of savings as have been very frugal for the past few months thanks to this site. I need a bank/savings account to put my VR and savings, get a good rate and a cashcard that allows me to regularly withdraw. The problem is,…

Open cheque ?
I'd like to issue what I understand is an open cheque. I have "normal" crossed cheques but believe if I write "please pay cash" across the cheque then it becomes an open cheque. I have done this a few times but many years ago. Does anyone know if this practice is still permitted ? I am with HSBC.

Current account for teenagers - no ID?
My 17 year old son is about to start his first job and needs a bank account for his wages to be paid into. He enquired at the Co-op bank and was told he needs 2 forms of identification. However 1. he does not have a valid passport as his existing one is now out of date - his new employer will arrange his passport as it may…

Lloyds TSB Internal Scoring & Risk Assessment?
I've had a Lloyds TSB Student account since August 2008 with a £200 interest free overdraft. I used £180 of this between August and September 2008, and until just last week the account had been completely inactive with no funds going in at all. I was overdrawn by £180 for almost 3 years to be clear. My overdraft has now…

Sending money to a German bank account
I need to make a regular monthly payment to a bank account in Germany. My UK bank will charge £9.50 per transfer and the transfer is done in two days. I like the speed and security of using my bank but over time all those £9.50 payments add up. What other options are available to me? Thanks in advance.

Nationwide refuse to transfer my money!
Hello, I have an ISA and current account with Nationwide which I use for my savings. I have just moved to Spain for a few months and thought it would be easy using the internet to transfer funds from my ISA into the current account and then into my First Direct account (which I had set up and used to do just that…
