The maths is simple. If you DON'T have panels, you can sell the electricity you generate to EON for 16.5p/kWh. When you later need the power, you can buy it back for 21p inc VAT (as at Aug 2025, also from EON). So it'll cost you the difference, which is 4.5p/kWh.
