Simply Electronics - WARNING
Comments
-
And just to answer Doc N post yesterday, this is a real posting that has happened to me and not some competitors campaign, just like his post sounds like it has come from Simply Electronics themselves!! (Most probably!!!)
Oh yes - I like it! I'm posting on behalf of Simply Electronics.
Seriously, though, I can see no reason whatever for all the single-post posters who've apparently gone to the trouble of registering with MSE just to make that one post. Others have made the same observation.
I wonder why it is?0 -
The one thing I can't really understand about this thread is the sheer volume of posts from single-post posters who appear to have joined MSE just to make that one post.
Virtually every post fits this description, and whilst I don't doubt the overall message about Simply Electronics, the posts are becoming less and less credible and looking more and more like a competitor's campaign.
To be honest I'm quite offended by this.
I bought my products and viewing this forum and seeing the issues cancelled and I'm so glad I did.
Had I not have read the information from other users, I wouldn't have realised until it's too late that they are grey imports and a horrific company to deal with.
My story to date; following previous posts, daily messages to simy electronics and ridiculous replies asking for me to hold on another few days for my refund, my order status on the site remains 'priority refund'.
I took the advice of one poster on here and contacted 'Skril' which I assumed was similar to paypal? Twice I raised a dispute with them and received no reply. They have not answered their phone either.
So yesterday morning with my credit card bill due, I contacted Mastercard. They were brilliant and really eased the stress I've had regarding this. They advised they are aware of the company.
What I don't understand is that if the likes of MasterCard are aware of this company how they can keep ripping people off??
Personally I would like to thank the 'one off' posters like myself who made me realise an hour after ordering they were one big scam.
I'm more than happy to prove my order and ordeal is not fake and a 'competitors campaign'. I've been a member of these forums for a while and prefer reading than sharing my opinion. However due to the stress of possibly loosing over £1k around Christmas, I didn't want anyone to go through what I'm experiencing.

Sent and paid for my ipad 2 January 2014 and received it 14 January 2014. Lot of scaremongering on these websites.
The company is in Hong Kong and sources Worldwide, you have to wait a bit longer for delivery but I saved £60 on the ipad which was worth a few days waiting.
My emails to the website were always answered. I think the bad reviews are because people once reading the bad reviews are cancelling which in turn blocks the whole system up.
I have had no problems and would therefore recommend them.0 -
And there are some single-post posters posting in favour of this outfit that look every bit as suspect as some of those posting against it!
Chrissyb, I wasn't aiming at you, by the way - I'm sure you're totally genuine - more at those who've apparently gone to the trouble of signing up specially, just to make one single post (either way).0 -
Hi,
I made the mistake of not checking Simply Electronics out prior to ordering from them.
I ordered from them an iPad 2 on 27/12/2014 and was emailed by as Skrill confirming payment the same day along with one from Simply Electronics with the order number 646208-1035232stating delivery would be 4-10 working days. My account was debited 1/1/14 for £289 by Skrill.
On 8/1/14 as the item was still not showing as dispatched, I emailed to cancel the order and get a refund as it was not going to arrive in time for what it was required.
I got an immediate response to say the order was now being prioritised to ensure quick delivery.
I then have sent two further emails as they were responding stating the item was being progressed for delivery and therefore they obviously we're not listening.
They have emailed back on the 9th to say a refund would be processed and should delivery be received refuse it.
On 9/1/14 I emailed informing them I was going to arrange a chargeback which i did via my bank.
On 15/1/13 the parcel showed packed for delivery and no sign of a refund so emailed threatening to speak to the Hong Kong consumer authority and the Hong Kong police and immediately received an email saying my order was being dispatched and it arrived today so we have refused to accept delivery.
Simply electronics are clearly just accepting high value orders and then holding them for long periods to benefit from interest from the money.
They do not make it clear that they are not a uk retailer and offer extremely poor service and fail to respond appropriately when contacted by customers.
I will complete the chargeback and will have to change my bank cards as I do not trust the company not to debit my account again.
I contacted kickchex today to complain about them and got this response,
Dear Craig,
Announcement regarding Simply Electronics and the resolutions services provided by KwikChex
Since June 2012, KwikChex has provided a resolutions service that enabled customers of Simply Electronics with complaints to raise their issues with KwikChex - a form of 'complaint escalation'
Throughout that time, (with the exception of one case which was more complex) all cases have been resolved with either the goods being delivered, a replacement being accepted and provided or a refund made. We have throughout the 18 month period emphasised that KwikChex was unaware of any of Simply Electronics customer being deprived of either an acceptable product or a refund - and continually made it clear that we would always wish to hear from anyone with a complaint.
Within the agreement that we had with Simply Electronics was the clause that although they are based in Hong Kong, they would comply with EU consumer laws. They adhered to this in terms of every case we handled.
We additionally answered all queries over matters such as 'Grey Goods' and supplied additional information on the business.
The number of complaints we received on a monthly basis fell substantially over the 18 months. We have always acknowledged though that there were issues, particularly concerning the stock levels shown on the website and late deliveries that remained and had been seeking new ways to prevent these from happening.
Regrettably, KwikChex will no longer be able to pursue the solutions to such issues as Simply Electronics discontinued using our services with effect from 31st December 2013. We will therefore also not be able to accept any further cases.
Regards,
KwikChex Team

I tried to buy a Canon DSLR from them. I said "tried" because they have never dispatched it.
After almost 15 days, a lot of emails, attempts to call ...and after a lot of polite-vague-fake emails/answers with a lot of excuses I cancelled the order.
I guess I obtained the full refund just because I paid via Paypal and after I threatened them to escalate my claim through Paypal.
I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use them again.0 -

While I'm sure there are a few shills from competing Hong Kong based electronics retailers on this thread, I'm pretty certain that the reason for so many one-post-wonders is because if you type 'Simply Electronics' into Google, MSE is the third entry and the first which is not from that website.

I also had nothing but problems
Promised delivery by Christmas the closed for 2 weeks over Christmas
Cancelled my order, they ignored this despite phoning them every day
They sent the order and eventually arrived mid Jan, despite confirming they had cancelled it
It's a grey import so no warranty, the company is in Hong Kong so have no come back, they just sent the item anyway knowing there is no way I can do anything to get a refund now.
DO NOT USE - NON UK MODELS ARE WORTHLESS AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS0 -
I can assure you that this company is as poor as all the posters state.
I ordered a tablet at the end of December. The first payment came through as "failed" so I tried again, only to find that they had processed 2 orders from me.
After some trouble (they do have a good call centre system that allows you to redial and go back into their queue) I managed to get one cancelled. But had to send email.
Was waiting over 2 weeks and the item finally was delivered in good order and my refund came through. Had to contact them several times. The status of orders/refunds only approximates to reality.
Their prices are good but I didn't check them out thoroughly enough. I was taken in and though I was dealing with a UK company. I wouldn't use them again unless they sort their act out in a major way.0 -
I ordered a DSLR on 29 December 2013 because Simply Electronics were 24% cheaper than Amazon. Skrill took the payment and I was told I would receive the camera within 4-10 working days.
I then came across this thread and the posts here got me quite worried, especially because my Order Status was "Stock Allocation: We are arranging stock for your order. You can expect dispatch in the coming days." but the item page for the camera on their site said "10 Units In Stock Usually dispatched in 2-3 business days". So, worried, I contacted them on 7 January and they replied within 24 hrs to say the item was shipping.
I got a DPD tracking number on 10 Jan and received the item on 13 Jan which was 10 working days if you include the NYE Bank Holiday. The camera was the UK Version (although it came from Hong Kong) and was in perfect condition.
So, all in all, I'm a very satisfied customer and I'll be buying again from them shortly as they have a Canon lens that is 30% cheaper than Amazon. I thought I'd join the forum and post this to hopefully reduce the stress of anyone who's bought from them and is having second thoughts - I don't doubt that other members have had bad experiences and I may have just been lucky but they are capable of good service.0
