TMobile Web'n'Walk USB broadband

My parents have recently signed up for the TMobile Wireless broadband connection with a Web'n'Walk USB modem. The contracted started in mid-Jan and is for a ridiculous 24 months min @ £20 per month.
My experience of using a 3G network in that area was not very good, and the TMobile 3G coverage for their broadband they are currently getting is non-existent. The 2G coverage according to their checks is 'Very Good'

Put it this way, they might as well stay on dial-up.

My parents did pop back into the Tmobile shop about a couple of weeks after the service had started, but were told that a new mast would be erected in March so the service would improve.

My question: If the service does not improve, would my parents be entitled to some form of compensation/refund/opt out of contract?
How long should they wait before they complain again about the naff coverage in their area?

Anyone had any similar experiences?

T-Mobile are teaming up with "3" so both can use each others network. You may find that improves things if 3 provide decent coverage.

Thanks! I wasn't aware of that. I used to be on the 3 network, and couldn't get 3G coverage with them on my phone from my parents place a couple of years ago. Not sure if a new mast will be put up in our area to improve coverage, as some people are understandably a little concerned about having a new mast outside their homes.

I switched to T-mobile for internet in October and, until the last week or so, it was brilliant. This last week my connection keeps going: sometimes I have to re-dial (so to speak) several times an hour. If that doesn't work, I actually have to restart the computer to get it back. I'm a bit puzzled: this used to happen maybe once a week, but now it is constant (I have to copy this post before I press send because otherwise there is a strong likelihood I'll lose it).

The need to redial or restart is, I think, because of a bug in the web-n-walk software - it doesn't cope well when loading times out. But that's not major so long as loading doesn't constantly time out/stall. And I'm assuming that this must be a signal problem. Any ideas on what might have changed? We haven't moved house or bought any equipment that might interfere with the mobile signal.

Interesting: can't get into their site, either! Is there something odd happening with T-mobile????

  • Don't use t mobile if you don't want to pay by direct debit.
The cheapest mobile broadband t mobile do is advertised as being £15,for now. It's £15 if you pay by direct debit but if you want to use a safe way to pay i.e. with a credit card they will charge you a 20% surcharge for using your credit card,so that's £18 a month. They will insist on doing a harmful-to-your-credit-score credit check on you. When you receive your modem you will also see on the despatch note that you have been charged £6.99 for a sim card and £5.95 for delivery,so that's £30.94 for the first month on your credit card. You will also discover that after the first month t mobile will then refuse to take any more money from your credit card for subsequent months and demand that you pay by direct debit. Two points arise from this, one, there is no reason to do a credit check if they refuse to take money from your credit card and demand you pay by direct debit, two, your distance selling cooling off period has long since expired and you are now required to complete a 2 year contract paying by direct debit.
Don't use t mobile if you don't want to pay by direct debit.
  • I am also having serious issues with this service. I get kicked every time I try to use any bandwidth more than single tab browsing. Beyond frustrating... and I know its not just me either - loads of people are having problems with We 'n' Walk.

    Hi.

I have t-mobile's web and walk mobile internet (web'n'walk plus) on my laptop and its awful. Its so slow (slower than dial up). I do understand its not going to be as good as home broadband but at times its unusable. My area is meant to have good coverage and I live in a city so it should be good.

I have phoned the T-mobile helpline before and they are good phoning me back to my mobile as their helpline is 0845 and would otherwise cost me a lot. However it doesnt make a lot of difference as they help me go through the settings and it is still slow.

The contract runs out in September - is there any way I can get out of the contract early as what they are providing isnt fit for purpose.

Im paying £29 a month (12 month contract) and £6 for insurance on the modem thing (they told me in the t-mobile shop you cant buy new modem things if they break without taking out an extra contract - is that true?) - so £35 a month for something that doesnt work properly is frustrating.

In case youre wondering why I went for this option its because Im in rented accomodation and didnt know how long I would stay and it had no phone line which costs a lot to reconnect.

    Any suggestions much appreciated!!

I am having the same issue with Vodafone mobile broadband, I am ringing them tomorrow and sending it back... it is so slow! I have tried it on 3 different laptops/desktops and in 2 different areas and it's still slow... The coverage map said it is fine, so I am pretty annoyed!

I will now have to get a BT landline in my new place and pay the £125 when I may have to move out again in 6 months...

Im also having problems with the service being very very slow. Some evenings are worse than others. Have you had any luck working out what the problem is?
  • I was just about to type that things were improving for me when I got kicked - the irony!

I believe there are two problems.

You could have a faulty USB stick.
You may be in a low signal area which means when you drop-off the network you have trouble reconnecting.

I generally have less trouble with mine as I have bought a USB extension lead and I now hang the stick outside my window to get better reception...

    :(
