NTL: I've just saved £120 per yr with 1 phonecall

Options
We have base tv pack and telephone line rental (£19.95 per mth) broadband (£17.99 per month) with NTL.

I just rang them to say we had bought a freeview box and could they tell me how much our bill would be without the TV option on it. They said that phone line rental is £9.95 (ie without TV we would save £10 per month overall). Before I could say 'cut us off', they said that as we have been customers for a while and have all 3 services, they offered to give us a £10 credit on our bill every month for 12 months to save them sending an engineer to come and get our set-top box and install a modem!

That was that - now we get all the same services but it's £10 a month cheaper! Just for a (freephone) phone call to them! How's that for a moneysaving tip?!

Bargain.

I would definitely recommend giving them a call if you're a customer, telling them you don't want a particular service because you're getting it elsewhere, and seeing if they will offer you any incentive to stay with them. It worked for us!

;D
Mmmmmmmmmm...... bargains.......!

Inspired by you I tried it too. Sadly I haven't been with them for 1 year yet so I am not allowed to cancel any of my options. That kind of undermined my bargaining position!

Nevertheless they gave me a 1 month free trial of the Family Pack, so next month I get more channels and save myself the £10 the base pack would have cost me. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

I'll try again when my first year is up.
  • have you the contact no. plus is it open w/ends,did you wait half hour before getting through !... thanks
never put off buying a bargain today,it may be gone tomorrow
  • I rang the number on the back of my bill; it was this afternoon around 1.30pm. The number is 0800 052 1426 (however I think this is the number for new customers - they put me through to another extension which probably made me jump the queue!! I didn't wait long - only a couple of mins at the most for an answer). The main freephone number for existing customers is 0800 052 2000.

I did sort of the same thing but i said that i was thinking of cancelling my account with them. They offered the £10 per month discount plus 3 months half price broadband saving a further £27 over the next three months. I have just had my NTL phone bill in today and it looks lovely with all the discounts showing.
Total saving £147 over the next 12 months - Well done NTL

Just gave them a call as we are supposed to be having Digital installed on Oct 12th with NTL.
    Got offered nothing :(
So now no digital and our analogue tv is being taken out in 30 days. :-/
  • And instead of getting some money from you to pay for their fixed cost infrastructure they are now going to get nothing!

...Why are these companies so stupid..life and in particular business is about negotiation and not just blindly paying what is asked!

Wow love-a-bargain - how brilliant is that?
I have tried the same thing after advice from a similar thread some months back and got offered absoloutely nothing. You have inspired me to try again.
thinking about why some people fare better than others I wonder if it could be down to area? Maybe theyneed and therefore value customers ore in some areas? Just a thought......

I tired yesterday - I have just lost my job so I thougth I would try and cut back on some non-essentials. Called NTL and asked how they could help and apart from suggesting I go to dial up and lose 1 home phone (I have 2) they were not too sympathetic.
    Bismillah
  • Imagine if everyone rang up NTL tomorrow and simply told them that they were no longer prepared to pay their prices and were going elsewhere...

    Think about it!
