They charge £53 for the mot but include a 10 day free retest if it fails, and you can get the work done where ever you like. Very honest garage.

Thumbs up Hertfordshire

Used this council MOT Test centre last year. They charged £50 for the MOT and retested it for free.

There is an amazing deal that runs occassionally around the South East, through a marketing company that represents major dealerships. I got mine for a garage in Broadbridge Heath near Horsham, West Sussex. You get all of the following:

MOT, Major Service, Minor Service, Front Wheel Alignment, Air Con Check, Brake Inspection & Adjustment, HPI Check, 2 Car wash & Vac, Seaonal Check, Puncture Repair & Balance and a Courtesy Car all for just £89 to use in any order over 12 months! Absolute bargin.

The representative that runs the offer in my area can be contacted on 07966 476420. Worth a call.

Try Just mots, they seem to have a number of branches is Kent and Sussex, they charge £28.00 (booked over phone) or £23.00 if booked on line with free partial retest if taken back within 10 working days. I've had an MOT test done on an old Volvo (18 years old) and the guy said it was still solid and it only needed a small repair to get it though so I was happy with that. As the name sugests, they just do MOT's and no repairs so I hope this helps you same some money.

Smile Cheap MOT's

I can vouch for JUST MOT's, they have MOT'd four cars for me at the Tonbridge branch. Each time they have special offers and the last time they replaced a bulb free of charge. They do not do repairs, only MOT's, and I have found them to be efficient, fair, and friendly. The last MOT was £35.00 with a free retest if needed (it wasn't - phew). They have several branches in Kent & Sussex.

Called around some of these but none of these seem to operate around the Berks area. Seems not the place to be for MOTs!

I thought a free retest was standard? Ive certainly never paid for a retest...

Alot of places charge for a retest - we don't but sadly lots of garages do. Its up to the garage what they charge - as long as they don't go above what VOSA set, then it is a bit of a free for all...

Another One for Herts, this time quite central:

Royton Express - on the main road between Welwyn Old Town and Codicote (B656), postcode AL6 9TY

The usual story - they have no repair business, so no interest in making money out of repairs, and therefore don't fail things unless they have to

Been going there for about 10 years now - great service!

Based at the back of a warehouse and distribution company

Default Cheapest MOT

Having searching this web site and not finding a cheap MOT test centre any where I cam across the Nationwide Autocentre website which was offering MOT's 'Nationwide' for £35.58.

I havebnt actually had the MOT yet but I booked my slot on their web site
http://www.nationwideautocentres.co.uk

and so far it looks really good and more the price I wanted and can afford to pay.

Its booked in for next Thursday. Iwill try and remember to let you know how I get on.

Please do, as Nationwide are notorious for finding faults. Saying they invented them could be slanderous, of course, but be careful

I can't believe you've gone to so much effort to read this.

Just be careful with the £35.58 quote. It looks like it's for AA Members only. Otherwise its £53. It's not clear when you book and I only got suspicious when I read the small print in my confirmation email.
