  • I ve always been a firm believer in going to Mot centres where no repairs are offerd if your car fails and for many years i have always had a fair check over of my car at the Gloucester council depot MOT workshop. However after many years of use this center has now closed and going to my next nearest one is very time consuming. So i set out to find a garage that did MOT s fairly and any repairs where both nessesary and not over priced. I should mention that im very savie with car conditions and costings having been in the motor trade many years ago.
The first couple of garages i used where giving cut price MOTs but found faults which didnt exist before the car entered thier premises. Then after a lot of asking around i found a garage which gave the car a fair look over and found all the faults i new existed. They gave me a quote for the repairs. I checked the parts prices and other garages for the same repairs to be carried out, and they where far more expensive. so i had the work done at the oridginal garage. My car has since flown through the last 2 MOTs at the same place with not even an advisory. The good one s are out there they just take a bit of looking for .

No one advertising cheap MOT's in Bath at the moment that I can see, but a lot of garages will do a pre MOT once over before the vehicle starts the test. I recommend you take your vehicle in at least 2 weeks before the MOT expires, so any failures/advisories can be sorted out at home if possible. MOT certs can be issued for more than 12 months so long as you take last years certificate in with you.

It's cheaper to do the work before the MOT test than after, it's normally only cheap rinky dinky bits that need doing.

Garages that offer at £25 MOT's are doing it below cost price, and you just know they will charge you an arm and a leg for new wiper blades, new indicator casing (it's just not the right shade of orange), cv joints etc etc.

  • I've always taken the view that a garage that doesn't rip me off normally and does MOTs is the best way to go. My garage owner is a decent soul, has a long queue of loyal customers and doesn't need to invent work. I don't know what he charges for an MOT and frankly, I don't care. He's not a rip off merchant and I expect it's £35ish. I just think it's better to be able to drive away with confidence that your car is roadworthy and thanks to his care during the year, you aren't going to get any nasty surprises.
