I used the Wakefield council MOT testing station for my most recent test, cost £52 and flew through also the tester told me a few horror stories about some of the big dealerships in the area.

One that you have missed is North Yorkshire County Councils own test centre. It is on Finkhills Way, Northallerton. It is at the Balfour Beatty Fleet Services / RCS yard. They do a lot of private tests, can do repairs but don't like to, too busy to make work! Just a fair and honest test. If its good enough for trading standards to go there before going to the 'rogue' testing stations, it's good enough for me!

I can heartily recomend Stephen King's on Skipton Road Harrogate.
When i used to work in a Franchised dealership near there all my customers used to rant and rave about him (in a good way).
On that basis i recommended my parents to get their cars serviced there which they have now done for a few years with out any cause for complaint.
Last time my mum needed new tyres, and he suggested she could get them cheaper at qwick fit. Because of his honesty she just got him to do it anyway and paid the extra.
I still always travel back from the SE if i need something doing, it works out cheaper that paying some crook down here to do the job wrong.
Not sure how much a MOT is but doubt its more than the standard rate.
Have just been and had a first time pass. There was someone ready to start when I dropped the car off so could do it while I waited.
They suggested a new Exhaust in about 6 months and pointed out a couple of things but that was a pleasant chat, rather than a prelude to a cash extraction.
There is a fully fledged garage opposite so you don't have to go far if you needed to have some work done and don't know the area.

If you're looking for a local council MOT service in Sheffield then this is their number 01142037421. They are located along the tramline in the Attercliffe area but I don't have the exact address. I booked my MOT and got seen next day. Cost £50. Left car for about 4 hours. First time my car has passed an MOT in 4 years.
I'm booked in on Mon - so I hope they're OK!

Just a suggestion for a good test station in York, called York Vehicle Test Centre (YVTC)
Unit 32,
Hospital Fields Rd,
Fulford Industrial Estate,
York,
YO10 4DZ
Tel: (01904) 541888
Can recomend them as they only do MOTs so don't try and rip you off with work that needs to be done.

council run MOT test centre that caters for motorcycles?
Hi All,
Does anybody know if there is a council run MOT test centre that caters for motorcycles?
Leeds would be good but anywhere in West Yorkshire.
If you think car garages take the micky..try (don`t) bike test centres..same bike..different day & tester..completely different & spurious test `failure` items.
Commercially driven test centres (the majority) have their profit as a bottom line imperative and consequently will declare unnecessary work to up the bill.
Local authorities, as usual, are missing a trick. They have full test facilities and no axe to grind re: profits...unless the tester slips into the conversation `..I know a guy who will fix your car..` but that will happen everywhere.
Would highly recommend Acecare in Horbury, near Wakefield for MOTs, repairs and servicing. They have always been friendly, helpful and (touch wood) have always been reasonably cheap.
I can highly recommend Sunset garage in Ulleskelf near Tadcaster. The testers are both highly quallified and very honest. The garage does not undertake motorcycle repairs so there is no gain to them to fail the bike. They will undertake minor repairs to get your bike through the test and dont charge the earth. There phone number is 01937833365 and postcode is LS24 9DW. Hope this helps
