  • I have used Wakefield Diesel Centre for many years and highly recommend them. They are on Pollard Street, just off the main Leeds Road (A61) in Lofthouse Gate, WF3 3HG.

If you don't have time to wait with your car whilst it is MOT'd, the 110 bus runs into Leeds/Wakefield if you need to travel to work.
  • Any recommended MOT/garages in Scarborough? (Must change user name now moved here!!)
  • west yorks ambulance service on ingleby road do a superb job but you have to book as they are busy-they used to do a superb service but for some unfathomable reason management stopped that

I have just moved out of Leeds and one of the only things I'm going to miss is Central Garage just off Roseville Road - an MOT specialist that doesn't do repairs.

See 'Our Mission' page on their website - do a search for centralgarageleeds (sorry, not allowed to post links here).

I've been going to them for several years and I am totally confident that they only fail vehicles when they have to.

I first went to them after a 'free' MOT at a Leeds Toyota main dealer who failed my car and said there was several hundred pounds worth of work to be done. Later the same day I took it to Central Garage, paid for an MOT and they passed it. I then questioned them about the items that had been failed (because I didn't want to drive an unsafe car) and they confirmed that they were totally safe and shouldn't have been failed in their opinion. The items eventually needed to be replaced but not for another 2 years and I got a quality job done at a much cheaper price than the dealer.

    I thoroughly recommend Central Garage.

I have just booked at this garage as unfortunately I couldnt get an appointment with the York Road, Leeds Council run MOT centre due to them being so busy from the publicity on here. Central garage managed to get me in this Sat at 12pm (only slot they had left) so will let you all know how it goes.

The cost is £50.00 flat fee and free re test - so keeping my fingers crossed it will fly through! Lovely chap that I dealt with too, plus I can wait while its tested as will only take around 40 mins :)
  • I tried booking my car in with the Leeds Council test centre, but they're fully booked for the 3-4 weeks.

I've seen a Google Ad for Sultas Auto Specialists in Leeds offering an MOT test for £25 without any re-test fees.
At £25 quid its cheaper than the Halfords deal mentioned on here (unless you book with a full service which I don't need at the moment) and its nearly half the price of the council centre (which is £45 and full!).

The bit that makes me think they are genuine is their website says if it fails I can take it elsewhere for repairs or even repair it at home myself. Either way they'll still re-test it for free.

I've read some horror stories on here about other cheap MOT deals but they were £16 which seems crazy! Does £25 quid sound too good to be true?
Has anyone heard of Sultas or better yet used them? They're near Kirkstall Rd somewhere by the cinema.
Assuming no horror stories I might take a punt!
  • Ok, I've read the reviews for Sultas online and they seem quite favourable so I've booked in with them for my MOT next week.

    Will post how it goes!
  • Happy to report all went well with Sultas last week!

Car passed MOT, no problems, no extra charges. £25 absolute bargain for an MOT!

Apparently they're a new garage so its a special offer to get their name out there. Have to say I'm really impressed. Its a relief to find a decent garage in Leeds. Just hope they stay cheap for next year!

Not sure if its acceptable to post links here? I'm sure you can find them easily enough by googling Sultas MOT Leeds.
  • Hello all

Any one interested in using a council MOT test centre in the East Riding, please note the phone number posted on this site is slightly incorrect (just one digit wrong) for the Beverley Depot. The active phone number for Beverley Depot is 01482 395781, not 01482 365781. I have just booked mine in for next week so will let you know what kind of service we recieve.
  • Would certainly recommend The Mot Shop at James Street, UNIT 44, The Raylor Centre, YORK YO10 3DW. They also only do MOT's and have used them myself on numerous occassions. Below is an extract taken from their website www.themotshopyork.co.uk
    York.
    • MOTs While You Wait
    • Cars, Light Vans
    • Mopeds, Scooters, Motorbikes
    • Free Retests - 10 Working Days
    • Superbikes, Side Cars
    • Mon - Fri 8-5.30, Sat 8-1
If I had 8 hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend 6 hours sharpening my axe
  • The bit that makes me think they are genuine is their website says if it fails I can take it elsewhere for repairs or even repair it at home myself. Either way they'll still re-test it for free.
That is no indication at all because all MoT testers have to allow this!
