  • I went to the york road govt test centre this week and thoroughly recommend them - take a magazine though, there's nothing to read in the waiting room!!

Just a suggestion for a good test station in York, called York Vehicle Test Centre (YVTC)
    Unit 32,
    Hospital Fields Rd,
    Fulford Industrial Estate,
    York,
    YO10 4DZ
    Tel: (01904) 541888
Can recomend them as they only do MOTs so don't try and rip you off with work that needs to be done.

Yes I have used these guys a few times and they are very good. I'm in Hudds at the moment and its not easy here.

My 03 reg Easytronic Corsa is due for its MOT end of April and I'm looking for somewhere in Selby. I don't think there's anything wrong with it but am reluctant to go to Vauxhall, as past experience has not shown them to be very reliable and rather expensive! Anyone got any suggestions where I could take it that they would recommend?

I have just moved out of Leeds and one of the only things I'm going to miss is Central Garage just off Roseville Road - an MOT specialist that doesn't do repairs.

See 'Our Mission' page on their website - do a search for centralgarageleeds (sorry, not allowed to post links here).

I've been going to them for several years and I am totally confident that they only fail vehicles when they have to.

I first went to them after a 'free' MOT at a Leeds Toyota main dealer who failed my car and said there was several hundred pounds worth of work to be done. Later the same day I took it to Central Garage, paid for an MOT and they passed it. I then questioned them about the items that had been failed (because I didn't want to drive an unsafe car) and they confirmed that they were totally safe and shouldn't have been failed in their opinion. The items eventually needed to be replaced but not for another 2 years and I got a quality job done at a much cheaper price than the dealer.

    I thoroughly recommend Central Garage.

    Hi all,

Just to let you know if you can't get a quick appointment at Bradford council Shearbridge depot (they told me there would be a month wait), then try Bradford Fleet Management on Canal Road.
They only do MOT's so have no interest in running up possible repair costs and were recommended to me by the council.

Oh and the telephone number for Shearbridge depot in the cheap MOT article is actually the number for the main reception - to avoid being passed around, call 01274 433857 to get straight through to the MOT office.

    Hope this helps!
  • Just booked my car into the Wakefield Council test centre. Called up, no free appointments for days, but the lady on the phone rearranged a few things and got it booked in for a bit later today. £52 for the test, but hopefully they won't find much wrong with it!

If you're looking in Doncaster then I can thoroughly recommend M&G Auto Electrics, they've been brilliant with my geriatric Honda, it passed last year, and only failed this year on a known fault. It's a family run independent garage and they couldn't be more pleasant.

They are at DN1 2ST, which is behind Homebase as you head out of Doncaster towards Wheatley Hall Road.

Hi, I know they have already been mentioned above but I really recommend Central Garage in Leeds. I took old cars to a number of different places and paid through the nose for repairs. Central do test only for flat fee of £50 and free re-test so I was able to ring around and get the best quote for the repairs needed as well as getting some stuff myself from scrapyards.
I did the same with Ladyroyd garage in Bradford where I had some repairs done (but no MOT). I used to work for a breakdown company and they were one we used and were highly recommended. They weren't patronising at all and didn't rip me off despite me being a young female. They were happy for me to source the parts myself and labour was good, so in total I only spent about £100 on work that another chain garage in Leeds had quoted me £350 for!
I lived in Leeds for 6 years and it took me all that time to find a decent garage (worth the extra driving time to Bradford) so gutted I have now moved away!

I'd be happy to recommend Jaggers on Halifax Road in BD6 (Wibsey).

They've looked after all my cars for over 10 years and I've never found a bad word to say about 'em (except they ain't the cheapest independant out there).

    I'd say they're VERY honest though :)

I used the Wakefield council MOT testing station for my most recent test, cost £52 and flew through :D also the tester told me a few horror stories about some of the big dealerships in the area.
