Bank: Nat West
Amount Reclaimed: 798.85 charges 166.74 interest
Amount they paid:798.85
I claimed for my partner as he thought there was not a hope in hell as he is in permanent overdraft. I filled out and sent the template to them 2 months ago, I was just about to start chasing them prior to sending the court letter.
I was absolutely thrilled when my partner received a very polite letter stating that they did not agree that the charges were unfair however having reviewed the case and as a gesture of goodwill and without admission of liability or error they asked would he be happy with £798.85 being paid into his bank account!! Also if not happy with paying charges in future, then either operate account properly or they will take away overdraft facility. Partner promises not to be in a position to pay bank charges again as there are better things to spend that money on.
This pays off half his overdraft, he is happy and I am delighted. Thanks so much to this site for the guidance.0 -

The story: Natwest didn't reply to any of my letters. A week after raising a small claim court case received a letter saying that they agree with the charges do not accept any fault, but as a good will gesture were offering you £5127, which was the full amount!
People, keep going and dont be scared, get your money back!0 -
Bank :Abbey
Amount Claimed: £7439.07 inc interest and court fee of £250
Amount Paid: £7439.07
I went through the usual process of letters and the filed MCOL on 30th March.
Abbey failed to acknowledge and so I was given judgement by default. Now waiting for payment.
Not many Abbey successes on here as they seem to keep things going for as long as they can!! Don't give up though one way or the other you will get there in the end.0 -

BANK: FIRST DIRECT
AMOUNT RECLAIMED: £1900
AMOUNT THEY PAID: £1500
The whole process took 6 weeks from start to finish and that included waiting approximately 4 weeks to receive my copy statements from the bank - which they did not charge me for. After I calculated what my charges have been for the past 6 years I wrote to them, as instructed by Martin, asking them to repay them to me. Unbelievably I received a response from First Direct 1 week later offering me a refund of £1500 which I was more than happy to accept. :j
Thank you Martin for all your advice from this excellent website. I would advise anyone to take on their high street bank and not to be deterred as the whole process from start to finish is simple. Thank you once again and good luck to everyone who takes them on!!!! :T0 -

I just thought I'd let everybody know that I've had a bit of success against Lloyds TSB.
It all started middle of last year when I went through a particularly bad time. I was being hit for charge, after charge after charge. The costs soon mounted up to well over £1000.
I decided that as they owed me in excess of £2,500 in bank charges that I would get myself a new bank account with somebody else, and effectively abandon Lloyds - with the account showing £1000 overdrawn - with no overdraft facility. I couldn't really afford to take them to court, but had threatened it (to no avail).
They pestered me continually to get me to repay the £1000, even suggesting a repayment plan to me. I was determined not to pay it, and even had numerous letters from their solicitor threatening action.
Eventually, they repaid £700 "as a gesture of goodwill", but they got REALLY heavy with the £300 outstanding. I stood firm, with letters back and forth between their solictor and me. I honestly was not nervous about this in the slightest at any time.
Last week, I discovered that they have closed the account, and the £300 has been "written off". In my last letter to their solictor, I challenged them to take me to court, where I would ask to see details of how they work out their charges. What a result! They've just given up!
It is possible, I guess, that their solicitor was actually costing them more than the value of the account - but I suspect that they were more worried about having to go to court to justify their charges in a claim that they wanted to make against me!0
