Oldernotwiser wrote: »And do you take it off when the baby's not in the car, because most people don't! Imagine someone in the emergency services coming to harm because they're trying to get someone's baby out of a burning car when baby's not there anyway! (Apologies to you and everyone who remembers to take these signs down when the baby isn't in the car.)I was told by an ex-paramedic they don't take much notice of them for that very reason.
He said they always look for people around the scene anyway.
I think they are just a daft accessory personally. Nothing like blocking your view in order to make things 'safer'...as has already been said, this is complete rubbish
the emergency services will check vehicles, & ask the occupants, to confirm if there is anyone else in the vehicle.
also, why would the child be lying on the floor? carseats should be fastened to the seat, & other children should be wearing seatbelts.
they are a complete waste of money on tat that is simply not needed, & some of the ones ive seen are so big compared to the back window, they must be blocking some of the visibility.
Ours does not block the view at all as its right up in the corner and just big enough to see, of course I would not attach something to my car which blocked my view!!!! I do detest the large ones with pictures of teddies etc on, or the ones for young girls that say 'babe on board'- not THAT is silly!
As for not taking much notice, well even if they take a small amount of notice it may help! I think any emergency service would rather they looked than just said 'oh no its ok'!!!! And as for asking, well what if noone is conscious to ask ?
Anyway re the P and C spaces- I am happy to park anywhere in the car park, if there is a P and C one I park there, if not then I don't (obviously lol). I would NEVER use a disabled bay. Sometimes in tight spaces it is hard to get DS out his car seat (but this is largely due to my back problems making it hard to bend!), but we manage, so I expect most others can too! TBH the thing that annoys me most in car parks is people who cannot/will not park properly- putting their 4x4 across 2 spaces or parking at wierd angles thus blocking 3 spaces with one car etc!I agree wider spaces would be of benefit to many shoppers. Lets start a campaign for wide spaces which are not confined to the sole use of P&C,then we will all be happy. Wouldn't we:DErmutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

whether they are single mums or not (personally cant see what the difference is to a parking spot whether your SINGLE or not.
i did not say it made a difference i was just pointing out to edgex that not all familys are 2 adult 2children and that its not possible for some parents to leave the kids at home!Wins for 2011: ........................

Well then there would be less spaces, or bigger car parks, or even pay car parks....someone would still moan!
But at least we would all be in the same boat, with no section of the shopping population(except those with legitimate disabilities)getting priority over others for a "perceived" difficulty.0 -

The post said why do TWO adults need to take their children shopping! It's obviously unavoidable if you're on your own but I can never understand the idea that Tesco's is a fun day out for all the family (ie two parents).0 -

I parked my 4x4 properly in Tesco car park yesterday & when I returned I could barely get into my car because some thick ignorant Ka driver couldn't park their p1ss pot little car & parked at a 45 degree angle. I could just open my door enough to squeeze in:rolleyes:
Do I think ALL Ka/mini car drivers are crap parkers, no! I'm mature & rational enough to realise its just him that was a crap parker:cool:0 -

Why not scrap the parent and child parking spaces and ban children from supermarkets. Would make them a much better place. Nothing worse than trying to do your shopping, and these wee b*ggers standing in your way, screaming the place down because mummy won't let them have that sweetie.0

As I'm feeling hungover and contrary I thought I'd make a point against disabled parking outside large supermarkets and shopping malls. (And I do this as someone who's married to a blue badge holder.) I often wonder about all these people who can only walk a couple of yards to the shop entrance without pain and difficulty and yet somehow they then manage to walk around the shops themselves without too much difficulty.
So are we never meant to go shopping? Of course it's still painful to go shopping, and I for one HATE shopping, and would love to say that I'd never go again, but sadly life doesn't work that way. I can't afford the delivery charges to bring things to me all the time, and it's only worth it if you want a big shop. Am I not allowed to pop in and get a few bits to last me? Or allowed to get some new clothes? Am I not allowed to go Christmas shopping just because I have a blue badge? We're meant to stay in and never go out because we have a blue badge?
Shopping takes a lot of energy from me and is incredibly painful, so when I stagger out with a couple of bags, I'm ever so grateful I'm able to park near by than half way across the car park."There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0
