The disabled parking scheme is now a joke and should be abolished or at least renewed forthwith. Whilst there is a lot of criminal abuse of the system, the main culprits are the blue badge holders themselves and their families who keep badges long after they are not needed, sell them on, use them when there is no entitlement etc etc. Also I don't see why disable badge holders get to park on double-yellow lines. Double-yellows are there for reasons of traffic flow and pedestrian safety; I don't see why that entitles disabled badge holders to park there and avoid parking fees in car parks.

Why do disabled people not have to pay to cross the Severn Bridge etc?

I can park my car in my garage and get out of the door quite easily.
Maybe you should start a poll.

    How old is your garage?
Where my parents and Nan used to live you can't even get a modern car into the garage, let alone get out of it once inside ;) (they were built in the 60's from memory).

Round here it's hard to get packed in most of the garages and get out of the car (70's), and even my Dad's double garage which was built to allow an 80's Ford Transit to get in either door would be tight if it was a single garage.

I suspect cars have gradually got wider, but probably not so much in the past 10 years (I think they are probably about as wide as they can get and still be legal) :)

  • Well perhaps you may feel differently one day if you became disabled which happens to a lot of people the older they become

How do you know most of the abuse is taken by BB holders themselves do you know that for a fact? Do you have evidence of this or is this pie in the sky

As with any good scheme (which, fundamentally, the blue badge scheme is), the selfish, lazy, anti-social !!!!!!s ruin it for those with a genuine need.

BB holder can park on yellow lines if its safe to do so ie not park on corners where it may cause a accident for example, or obstruct a entrance, there are also restrictions on parking ie two yellow stripes on the kerbs for example

In my local Tesco the spaces are not very big I have often had my drivers door blocked in by some idiot parking in a stupid way, I can see why people with or without kids (I have 4 boys under the age of 10 btw) use the Parent and baby spaces.

In my local Asda (which is much newer then the Tesco) the spaces are huge and they only have a few Parent and baby spaces as they are really not needed.

I actually had a run in with a very rude lady in Tescos car park a few weeks ago, my eldest is 10 and is autistic, I have a Blue badge for him and there were no disabled bays so I parked in a Parent and Child space, this lady came over saying she thought it was wrong I was in the space (I drive a London Taxi, I get it ALOT), I explained that the Disabled bays were full up to which she replied "so what", I also explained I had my 4 boys with me, the youngest is 3 so therefore I had every right to use the space, she started ranting on so I just laughed at her (always winds them up) and walked away, she shouted out something which I didnt hear but it was something like she was going to damage my car, what a silly old cow, as it was I got the washy men to clean it and she clearly never got her chance.

I just dont get the anger of some of these people, I can understand how frustrating it is when you have prams and car seats to get out but would u let it get you so angry? Really???

anyway back to the OP the old man had a blue badge, there were disabled spaces available so he should have used them instead of the m&b,

At the risk of attracting a major flaming, here's an idea: if you aren't a blue-badge holder, don't park in a disabled bay, even if no other appropriate bay is available; if you are not a parent with a child in the car, don't park in a parent and child bay, even if no other appropriate bay is available. Simple. If the bay isn't intended for your use, don't use it.

Maybe it is a perk to compensate them for being in continuous pain.
Disabled people deserve every allowance, perk or parking space they get.
Do disabled people choose to become disabled ....No.

Let me see which I would choose.
    A) Able bodied and free from pain.
    B) A parking spot closer to the door and a free jaunt into Wales, at the cost of a crushed vertibrae .. Hmmmmm
