Thankyou to Mr Bluebadge Holder.

I'd just like to say a very big thankyou to the Elderly Selfish man who yesterday decided to park in the only available Parent and child space at my local hospital, even though there were disabled spaces available a few metres away. You were obviously very ill and needed to park those few feet nearer the entrance. I realised this as I sat and watched you finish your cigarette before you sauntered off looking very pleased with yourself. I only hope that when you next have to go to said hospital that you are forced to park as far away as possible from the entrance, after all you'll have time you want to smoke as you walk to the entrance. Having read all the complaints about misuse of disabled bays, my sympathy has now gone out the window after yesterdays incident.

That aside, a big thankyou to the parking attendant, who advised that there was nothing he could do about the said selfish elderly male and that it was regular occurence but then found me a large enough parking space to be able to get my little baby out of the car and to his appointment and also told me not to buy a parking ticket. What a star, if only more people were as thoughtful as him.

Merry Xmas Everyone.

  • is it really that big a deal? Was it really an inconvenience to you to walk a few extra meters? How old is your child?

Was going to do a big response about mother and child spaces being there for a reason, as are disabled spaces but thought the better of it.
  • In response my child is 4 weeks old and, no it wasnt a big deal to walk from the furthest car park away. But my point is that the disabled bay was EMPTY and is NEXT to the mother and child spaces. I believe that this was quite simply a selfish man who doesnt have to try and lift a baby seat from a car without damaging the car next to it.

It's not having to walk the extra distance that's the problem. It's the additional space required to get the baby out of the car without damaging the cars parked (potentially yours!) next to you.

Perhaps he was collecting someone from the hospital and needed to park as closely as possible - your rant gives the impression that the disabled spaces are further away from the entrance than the parent and child spaces. Perhaps he was even collecting his son or daughter so was parked quite legitimately in the parent and child space - I've never noticed an age limit on them. Perhaps he was collecting his daughter and her new baby. Perhaps he had the blue badge in his car but it isn't for him and he didn't want to dishonestly take up a disabled space. There are many, many things you don't know and perhaps should consider next time before your blood pressure rises.

Your absolutely right Julie and I would thoroughly agree with you. However I also saw same said male leave and he was alone. This is why I am angry, normally I wouldnt care but i'm sure that if I had parked in that empty disabled space, he would have been the first to complain. When my son was in intensive care, I never used Mother and Child spaces or any space designated for a specific type of parking as I knew that they were there for a reason. I've always been considerate in that respect but have now realised that it really doesnt matter and I should park where I like!!!

Don't park where you like. I know its frustrating and I hate it too, but don't bring yourself down to their level.

Perhaps his grandchild had developed complications and could no longer be released ?

    Pehaps, Perhaps - Perhaps.....

But then the blue badge should not be on display as he would be breaking the law if the badge holder was not travelling with him.

The disabled parking scheme is now a joke and should be abolished or at least renewed forthwith. Whilst there is a lot of criminal abuse of the system, the main culprits are the blue badge holders themselves and their families who keep badges long after they are not needed, sell them on, use them when there is no entitlement etc etc. Also I don't see why disable badge holders get to park on double-yellow lines. Double-yellows are there for reasons of traffic flow and pedestrian safety; I don't see why that entitles disabled badge holders to park there and avoid parking fees in car parks.

As with any good scheme (which, fundamentally, the blue badge scheme is), the selfish, lazy, anti-social !!!!!!s ruin it for those with a genuine need.
