I lived in Georgia in the US for 6 months. There, shoplifters get the option of a heavy fine or to stand in front of the shop for a day with a billboard saying they shoplifted from that store.

Try that here & the human rights do-gooders would be all over it.

Off topic but that's a bit like those new "Community Payback" vests which people are supposed to wear during community service

"You were obviously very ill and needed to park those few feet nearer the entrance."

Maybe he did. You didn't need the space. You could manage without. Maybe he couldn't?

ETA: All this argument about blue badges is irrelevant anyway - it was a private car park, presumably?

Saying that, how are people enforcing the P&C spaces? Are they controlled in the same way disabled spaces are? I.e. heavy fines, and the need for a special badge?

No. And disabled bays in private car parks are not controlled in the asme way as on-street or council car parks, either. There is no legal obligation for a driver to display a blue badge in a private car park. If you don't see one, it doesn't mean they don't have one.

In response my child is 4 weeks old and, no it wasnt a big deal to walk from the furthest car park away. But my point is that the disabled bay was EMPTY and is NEXT to the mother and child spaces. I believe that this was quite simply a selfish man who doesnt have to try and lift a baby seat from a car without damaging the car next to it.
In reply, am I forced to walk that extra few feet (6 if that), with all my baggage, because YOU have a baby???. I think badge holders have FAR more rights than mums n toddlers in a car park.

Entirely up to whoever runs the car park. I told quite a few people to move their cars out of the parent and child spaces back when I was a supermarket thingy.

While I'm on the subject; it should be known that perfectly nice people are able to become total t*ssers if you tell them they can't park their car precisely where they please, and for free to boot. One of my pet peeves.

Yeah they have more rights to a disabled space...but no rights at all to a parent and child space!

I wonder how I coped when my DD was little without parent and child spaces:rolleyes: .I know it must be annoying when someone parks in the wrong spot but It's hardly the end of the world is it?

Dont know how old your DD is, but certainly when I was a kid in the 80's there were very few child seats because most babies and toddlers travelled on Mum or Dad's knee, therefore no need to have to open a door wide to get a seat out, and though my parents always made me wear a seatbelt it wasnt compulsory.

I sympathise with OP, this man had a choice between 2 adjacent spaces and chose the parent and child one. It is selfish.

Jeez, when are some people going to get over themselves! You didn't invent childbirth or children, it doesn't make you special, it just makes you prissy. I'd quite like to ban parent and child parking spaces as it just feeds the frenzy that is modern parenthood.

Why is it I have to trundle about a mile from the place I'm visiting and get soaked in the pouring rain, in the dark, because all the well-lit and sheltered parking spaces that are near the venue are parent and child spaces?

Really, please do show me where you get this relevant information from. I am assuming these spaces are allocated to those with a badge that says "Mum n Toddler Badge", securing that they have more priority to that space than anyone else.

    No Badge = No right!!!!!

I am getting this information from my common sense....which says...if the space says parent and child..these are the people who should be using the spaces likewise for disabled spaces.
