Porting to Vodafone once a contract has been set up is not possible.

It can only be done at point of sale ie. through VF direct.

Not registering sims, porting to PAYG then transferring to contract wont work either. This has been discussed in a thread I started on VF eforum here:
    http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=9453

I have also received an email stating:
You're unable to port your number from o2 to Vodafone if you've already been allocated a Vodafone number.

When a customer wishes to port their number from another network, this needs to be completed at the point of sale.

If you've already got a Vodafone connection with a Vodafone number, you'd not be able to change this to your O2 number.

If you're still within your 14 day return period, then you can cancel your current deal and take a new deal with your PAC code so that you keep your existing number.

I'm sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

    Kind Regards,

I also spoke with a chap this morning for about 20mins.

    It is simply not possible.

    Hope this helps others
  • It sounded too good to be true, but I have been told by 2 different people that i can, the calls have been recorded.

But it wont cost me anything to find out, as the sim is free and i would still go ahead with the pay monthly contract. So i guess its just an experiment, and i am not holding my breath!!! but i will let you know the results !

Should I register the sim when it arrives or not?

MJ any idea on porting to Voda via M2YD?
  • You can't. There is a discussion (above) about a way round it, but I never port and thus far haven't had a need to check it out - but I'm not convinced. Generally, cashback and porting don't mix; it can work, but it can also cause complications.

Do you think the deal with M2YD here:
    http://www.mobiles2yourdoor.co.uk/Contract_Offer_Details.asp?ItemKey=161072&MPItemKey=168831&byNet=1
    Nokia 6300, 600mins, 500texts, 12mth contract, £40 per 12mths after redemption is good?

I can also get £45 cashback via quidco and sell the phone for about £80. Making me £85 for the year's connection.

The only downside is loss of number which is quite valuable to me as I've had it for a few years.

So I was thinking of cancelling my order and going for a PAYM package with Vodafone to take advantage of the £90 quidco. This will mean I will hopefully make £10 after 4mths connection, receive 600mins and unlimited texts. I will get to keep my number and can then search again for a new contract/deal in 4mths time.

Or is the M2YD deal I linked to good enough to forefit my number....

I generally use 500mins/500texts a month so either tariff is good.
