I phoned twice last night, once to cancel and once when I realised they had overcharged me and I got through within 6 minutes the first time and the second time was 20 minutes.

    I used the 0191 501 3601 number on saynoto0870.com

I was going to cancel a few months back but they offered me 3 months for £5 a month so took it up. The third of those months they charged me £15, god knows how they worked that out as its only £9.99 full price. Anyway, i phoned up to complain and got another 3 months at £5 a month, it works out for 6 months i have saved £20, not a lot but it all helps.
I would point out to anyone thinking of signing up, the registration fee has gone up AGAIN. It was £9.99 in August, then at some point it went to £12.99, now this week its £14.99. Its a blatant rip off and they have no need to charge it but you cant avoid it.

Hi guys, I recently started working in a call centre that handles Setanta sales/CS and thought I might be able to shed some light on some of the problems many of you have been experiencing. Please note that I'm not speaking on behalf of Setanta or my employer and just want to provide some general information that might make your lives a little easier.
    • As far as I've been told, the problems regarding contacting Setanta CS are down to the company that handled Setanta's calls. Things got so bad they lost the contract and it was awarded to the company I work for.
    • The calls are in the middle of being moved to the new contact centres.
    • Freeview and satellite sales have pretty much finished being moved over (I think) and our location is just starting to take some CS calls.
    • Even we can't get through to CS at the old company most of the time.
    • Nobody you speak to on the phone in CS can authorise refunds, the only way you can request a refund is by writing to the address in Fife.
Again, I can't speak for any of the companies involved but I'd imagine things should improve over the next few weeks and months as calls are moved over to the new teams.

I found this a bit rich as working from the fife office is Scotland the reason there has been so many cancellation problems since the end of Dec begining of Jan was when they moved the retentions department down to the call centre in Sunderland they were making the worst mistakes ever and it was us that was covering up for them. However things are now changing and we are no longer going to be covering up for them unfortunately this isnt going to help people cancel and resolve the issues but I think setanta just got greedy and wanted the cheepest option for there cs hence the reason the standard has fell away dramatically. Personally i wouldnt use setanta as they really are crap and the connection fee is up to £14.99 now. They made the problems themselves when they reduced the price to 9.99 and never gave the existing customers at that price until they had contacted us to recieve the package

    Oh blimey....

Hubby just asked me to get a setanta set up box tomorrow ready for the calzaghe fight.... but not sure whether to after all the above ?
    I wouldnt ever agan!

Connection fee (for satellite users) is £15 - if you do decide to join make sure you set it up via DD and NOT credit card, that way you are in control and can cancel it and not wait for the innevitable "we have no record of your cancellation call" malarky!
  • ARGH!!!!!

I signed up last night but wish I had read this before hand!!!!

I signed up using my Credit Card, is there a definitive easy way to cancel after the minimum period?

In short, no, you have to give 30 days notice so that's really a minimum of 2 months subscription, and when you do cancel, phone them up
    (use free: 0800 027 2500 Geographical: 0207 7668 484 and 01915 013 601)
and also write to them confirming it using recorded delivery. When you call, get the operators name and ID (they have ID numbers for some reason).

    Address is
    Setanta Sports
    PO Box 800
    Kirkcaldy
    Fife
    KY2 6WD

Thats pretty much all you can do. People have even tried cancelling their cards but thats a bit drastic and wont necessarily work. If they do charge you after failing to cancel your account for you, they invariably do refund but it can take a month or so.

  • I have just checked my credit card account and found a £15 charge. I was on the £5/month offer, so was expecting £9.99.

I'm sorry but if you were on the £5 a month offer like i was then why were you expecting to be charged £9.99..?

I was charged £9.99 earlier this month when i was expecting to be charged £5 a month for the next 2 months.
  • With the offer that has just expired - was it for a minimum of 3 months or can I ring and try and cancel straight away?

i originally wrote to setanta on 01 April, u can see a copy on on page 7 of this thread and today have phoned them, sent a further email, my 4th (which is undernoted) and sent a letter (which is also noted) any suggestions as to were i can go from here.............

    LETTER:

"I refer to the attached copies of previous emails I have sent to you, and also a copy of letter which has been forwarded to your and also a copy of letter which has been forwarded to your PO BOX number in Fife which I was advised by a member of your team is the best place to send complaints as there were over 3,0000 emails backed up in your system. Please get back to myself as a matter of urgency in this matter"

    EMAIL:
" I have attached, copies of my previous emails and am diappointed to note that after 21 days, 3 emails and 2 telephone calls a conclusion has not been reached or at least an acknowledgement received.

Your speedy response is now expected due to the circumstance and my growing unsatifaction with your shoddy 'customer service'."
