  • This is the first time ive posted on this forum. reading these Flogas prices is just making my blood boil. I was with Flogas a few years ago they told me the price had increased significantly and they broke my fixed price. putting it up by 7p i was desperate for a delivery so had to pay the new price as they said i couldn't switch supplier for 42 days, even though they had broken my contract.
  • Hi Guys and Gals,

I'm looking at getting an LPG tank installed for our heating needs in an renovation project that is off mains.

Location is WA4 - in the North West.

UK LPG give the following options for suppliers:

    Calor
    Flo Gas
    Premier LPG
    Cambrian Gas
    Avanti Gas

I've had Calor out already so I could get some info on siting options and they gave me a quote of £250 (ex 5% vat) for an above ground tank if we do the civils. Tank rental charge 16.9p per day, 45ppl gas charge. With £500 free gas.

I've not had the others out yet, not sure if they can all supply tanks, but the above seems ok to me.

Anyone with experience know if these are decent or if I should still look around?

    Thanks.

    Why not consider oil?

Probably going to use gas for cooking too, I prefer a system that we might take out later (neighbour has gone GSHP) and I don't like the thought of Oil.
  • I often read this forum but have never posted before. Having read the above posts about Flo's fixed price of 38.5p I am fuming. I use approx 3000 litres per annum but am paying 59p per litre. When I queried the last price increase I was told that wholesale prices were shooting up and nothing could be done. How can they now offer 38.5p per litre to other customers?

I know I am under contract and can't switch at the moment but as soon as I can I will be off. Will they then offer me 38.5p?

Is there anything I can do? Does anyone know if it would be worth reporting this to the OFT or would they not listen to one insignificant domestic LPG user?

There must be thousands of Flo customers paying similar prices to me. Are you all happy subsidising their latest offers? Maybe we should all write to the OFT?

I have also received this offer from Flogas, 14 months after leaving them. I will NEVER return to this despicable company who are only interested in getting as much as they can squeeze from you. I was with them until the rules changed making it easier to change. No amount of sensible suggestion from me about the extremely unfair price rises they inflicted on me made any difference. When i baled out with them i was paying 62ppl (Sept 2012). I am now with premier gas, started off at 45ppl fixed for 12 months, just gone up to 47.5ppl with a promise not to go beyond 50ppl for the 2 year contract. They also said they didn't want to lose me next Sept so a sensible offer will be forthcoming. They are also great to deal with from the initial contact, switch over and ordering process. I have complimented them on these facts several times when speaking to them on the phone. Would recommend them to anyone.

NEVER go with Flogas........from experience, see other post i replied to.
I would recommend Premier Gas, head office now in Preston not Blackpool. Been with these since Sep 12. Everyone i dealt with were great. They have a philosophy of "fair market price" which i believe is the right one, with Flogas just wanting to squeeze till the pips run dry.

    Welcome to the forum.

Good to hear about another independent - and their good service.

    Here's their website:

    http://www.premierlpg.co.uk/domestic-lpg/

    I see they state:

The LPG that we supply is exactly the same fuel, bought from exactly the same refineries as all other suppliers.

....so I guess another supplier has been suggesting Premier's LPG is second-rate..and that's why it's cheaper. Ho ho ho!

Premier say they do new installations (most, if not all, independents do. Some have their own teams for this, some hire local contractors - just like BP did down here in Cornwall for tank-testing, before I switched to Extra Fuel, and a big price drop).

The government is clamping down on the the big six but oil and tank gas is never included in their thinking, and we pay far more for our fuel.Does anyone else think the same and i wonder what can be done about this

We don't pay the green levies, though. And that's what's causing all the current debate.
  • Does anyone know whether it's possible to get hold of a gauge that reads in litres that can be installed in the feed pipe going from the tank to the house? I'm trying to get an idea of how many litres per day our central heating uses with various combinations of radiators turned on and different programme settings on the timer. I gather our Aga uses 60 litres per week approximately but can't find out what to expect from our central heating boiler. Many thanks for any clues on this one! The boiler is a Ferroli Sigma 60-100.
