A little big of digging and some judicious "Googling" reveals that their address, phone no and key personnel bear a remarkable similarity to (i.e. are the same as) those of "Extrafuel" and "Extragas"0 -
There's nothing at all straightforward about this LPG stuff is there............?:cool:0

I couldn't disagree more, it's really very straightforward indeed:If you don't keep on top of your supplier, you're going to get taken for a ride.
CAVEAT EMPTOR
(That said, some suppliers will take you for a far longer and more exciting ride than others. Some don't include a "return trip" in the deal. And some will even take you on a long holiday to exotic far-off places where LPG costs more than 70ppl)0 -
I am just coming back to these forums after a little absence. But nothing has changed in the meantime. Just like thozza, I have had a price increase after a ‘win back’ fixed price period.
I recently submitted a written statement to the Parliamentary Sub Committee on Energy and Climate Change. They were taking evidence on Energy Prices Profits and Poverty. They are now recommending that the Energy Minister introduces Regulation into the LPG market. You can read their report by Googleing 'energy and climate change subcommittee', look under Committee Publications and find 5th Report - Energy Prices, Profits and Poverty - Volume I and in particular Para 25 of their Recommendations. Please make sure your MP reads it and then seek his/her support by writing to the Energy Minister. (Sorry I am not allowed to post a link)
In one particular battle of price rises, Steve Richardson, an independent consultant was able to help me secure a reduction from 56 pence per litre to 43.5ppl. He can be found by Googleing 'fuelandlpgservices'
I have been digging around following my recent price rise to see how the wholesale market has behaved over the last 12 months or so. Price Indexes are very commercially sensitive although the Office of Fair Trading (my contact has been Bob MacDowall), who are, failing any statutory regulation, the de facto regulator for the Bulk LPG domestic market, tell me that Flogas should advise their customers if asked about the Platts LPG Index. There is another trade index that is comparable to the Platts and I am assured that it shows that the wholesale LPG price FELL by 9% between September 2012 and September 2013.
Keep fighting; I am more confident that I have ever been that the LPG Market will be regulated and retail prices will be published.0 -
Recently switched to J-Gas as previous 2-yr contract until all the account details moved to the leicester address with Flogas.
J-Gas offered two options, 42ppl fixed for 9 months then variable, or a 'fixed' 2 yr deal at 42ppl/6months, then 45/6, 48/6 and back to 42/6. Latter seemed the safest option and in a better position at the end of the deal. AND they seem friendly and helpful (so far!)
Flogas did offer to undercut fractionally the 9 month fix, but have no trust in them not to screw me over in the future like they have done in the past!
This is west scotland and 4-5000 litres a year0 -

Thank you for that - most enlightening.
The reports can be found here
It is definitely worth making sure that your MP is fully aware.I have been digging around following my recent price rise to see how the wholesale market has behaved over the last 12 months or so. Price Indexes are very commercially sensitive
Indeed they are. If we mere mortals knew what the wholesale price was doing, the LPG suppliers would have a far more difficult time pushing through their often-unjustified price increases!...the Office of Fair Trading [...] tell me that Flogas should advise their customers if asked about the Platts LPG Index.
Knowing Flogas, they will probably try to get away with telling you that Platts is "commercially sensitive" information, and not to be sharedThere is another trade index that is comparable to the Platts and I am assured that it shows that the wholesale LPG price FELL by 9% between September 2012 and September 2013.That would be the ANSI (North Sea) Index. It is regularly posted in this thread (latest version can be found here) and it does indeed bear out what you have been told.

FYI, just had a quote from Lister Gas for 44ppl, £40pa standing charge based on 3000 ltrs / year fixed for 6 mths then on to either their variable or standard rates0

We've recently moved into a 3 bed house with LPG central heating (new condensing boiler) that is being supplied by 4 x 47KG calor bottles on an auto change-over system.
We're paying 70.6p per Litre, though the house did come with 4 full bottles of gas...
We thought we'd see how the winter went as we'd naively assumed that the cost of switching to a bulk supply would cost much more than the annual saving (we'll use 2-3000 litres/year). Now we're trying to choose our bulk supplier for the next two years to rush to get a tank installed as we discover the cost to switch (for a ground level tank anyway) would be recouped in less than a year. We've plenty of space for the tank.
Flo Gas (boo!!) are currently offering us the best deal, of £150 to install (in all cases on our pad, and our buried pipe, with us to arrange internal connections), 42.5ppl for the first year fixed, and 48.5ppl for the second year fixed.
Calor quoted £250 installation, 48-50ppl initially, but no fix, and we're open to escalating pricing.
I've tried two independents, waiting to hear back from one, but the other was £500 installation, 41ppl currently or 46ppl fixed for a year.
All have a £15-£16/quarter standing charge.
Heart says independent, head says sign up to flogas for the first two years and then leave for the independent….

Have you thought about owning your own tank?
Then you can buy from whoever is cheapest (and will fill a self-owned, rather than rented, tank).
The annual tank check is done by the delivery driver (visual and smell). Then you need to get 10 and 20 year tests done (ultrasonic, etc).
Both Cardiff Gas and Extra Fuel specify they have a lower rate for self-owned tanks. Certainly I've found Extra Fuel very easy to talk to.
If you think there's mileage in this you need to ask all your potential UKLPG suppliers (from the UKLPG supplier finder - just put in your post code) - then add Extra Fuel and LPGUK (sister companies). Lima Gas in Southampton seems keen for business - at least two forum users have had good contacts with them.
Anyway, here are some links to old posts, etc, you might like to chase up. Of course if you send a personal message to any of these forum users you may not get a reply (for a host of reasons!).
Good luck - and please keep us posted!

Odd. Calor installed us a new tank & pipe - our pad & trench, connected to the existing house-mounted regulator - for free a couple of months ago. Their new customer deal included £150 of free gas...
Flo have just this morning removed the old tank, which was disconnected two months ago when we moved to Calor officially. We'll see when they think the rental should expire, but I suspect we won't agree...0
