  • What's a fair LPG price at the moment ?

Increases in the offing too I expect
  • We are currently with Flogas but its ridiculously expensive on a new bungalow with double glazing, underfloor heating and plenty of insulation, no cooking. The letter came to state our monthly bill will be £186pm!!! Without phoning them I cant confirm our rate but I did phone 2 years ago to explain to them that our consumption is very low and there was an error but they said its correct.

My husband has gone out and bought x2 47kg bottles @ £55ea from the local gas supplier and wonder if this is an effective way to go? I will phone flogas and tell them to stuff their tank and they can come and get it.

Is this efficient and cheaper? There is no issue with collecting the bottles or have them dropped off.

This is only a temp solution as we are investigating the cheaper alternatives incl making our own solar panels. I am against any form of future reliance on imported fuel even though we have a store and sell firewood. This is our 2nd property which will be rented out. We are renovating our main house which will run on biomass but this will take a number of years to complete and cant afford the £25k plus bill to convert.

That'll be an estimate, and when you get the tank refilled, it'll be re-calculated and corrected to the actual usage.

    Theoretically... <grin>

So you'll be waaaay out of contract, and on the "sucker" rate. Time to phone around!

Bulk should work out a chunk cheaper and a chunk more convenient. Rough numbers, one kg is just over two litres, so 47kg for £55 = 93 litres = 60p/litre. Around 50p (inc vat) is easily achievable.
  • Yes, def a job for tomorrow. The £186 is to adjust the previously low £108pm. The tank is owned by Flogas so I assume you also pay for that in the cost?

How long would a 47kg bottle last I wonder? I suppose until i phone I cant confirm our usage.

    About 15p/day.

    About one-tenth as long as a 1000l tank... <grin>

    Indeed.

We've not long moved in to a place with LPG, so we don't have anything to compare to either. Calor have put us on £60/mo DD to start with, again - to be adjusted once the reality becomes clear...
  • I have moved into a property that we had tenants in. I have no agreement with flogas, though I called them to find out their costs etc. They very kindly sent me a new account number and DD slip etc. I've signed nothing yet and agreed to nothing. So, am I obliged to go to another supplier, if I found one (which I think I have) that are cheaper?

Apologies for the delay in posting this month's prices, but some suppliers were slow to update *their* prices :-)

Interestingly, wholesale is up a shade, but retail is actually down due to the relative strength of the £ vs. the $!

If anyone is looking for an independent supplier in North/West Yorkshire and Lancs area, please give BDS fuels a ring.

I have been with them now for 4 years thereabouts. They were a lot cheaper than flogas.

Excellent customer service. In August they phoned me to ask if I wanted a top up, as the price of gas had fallen and they thought it would only go up. The gas price was cheaper than my previous last two winter deliveries, so I said yes. Nothing is to much trouble for them and they are a small outfit.

I've tried the postcode finder and they don't come up for my postcode.

Maybe we should have a sticky listing all of the independents? To keep the big boys from ripping us all off.

Other than being a customer I have no financial interest in BDS fuels.

Sounds like a good idea, subject to it being realistically maintainable.
