I've just had a thought, and would llike some advice:
As mentioned in an earlier post, Liverpool Victoria rejected my claim on the basis that "no CPPI premiums have ever been charged ... Please see enclosed selection of statements confirming no CPPI premiums were charged."

They duly enclosed 4 statements and on one is an entry "Card Protect Tel" for £15.00.
If this is for insurance against theft or loss of the card or fraudulent use, why on earth would I have agreed to that? The card company itself covers that, plus I had a Bank Account package which included insurance of this sort.

So surely that is mis-selling a policy, albeit not payment protection?

My recent experience might help you with this one. At the time I was looking carefully at the PPI First Direct mis-sold me (a big win), I noticed that I was paying out an annual card protection fee as well, to the tune of about £30 a year for I don't now how many years. I took a bit of a punt with this one because I had no recall of the circumstances in which it was (mis)sold. All I did was send an e-mail to end the policy and making a complaint - no form, no phone call, no details really because FD could see how much I'd been paying and for how long. So this complaint didn't even cost me a stamp. I got an acknowledgement pretty quickly and then 6 weeks later a resolution. They did not accept that the policy was mis-sold blah blah etc etc, but they were prepared to make a goodwill gesture of £230. Compared to the PPI, this was a small but perfectly formed win. So, yes, it's possible to complain about mis-selling of any insurance policy.

Hi, just rec'd my final response letter which is great news. Part of the letter reads as follows:
If you have a current balance an element of this may relate to PPI premiums and interest you have already been charged. To ensure this is removed from your card all or part of you redress payment should be used to repay this amountIf you chose not to apply any of the redress payment to your card please be aware interest will continue to be charged on any remaining balance.

Does this mean I have a choice

They should reconstitute the card and pay you back the PPI and interest that you paid, I don't understand why you have to have the redress taken off the card, this should have been done, give them a call and ask why you have to put this back to the card when you should not have paid it had the PPI not been on there.
They may put the redress to the card and then issue a cheque to you, see if this is the case, unless the card is in arrears they should give you the PPI back, the card should have been reset when they upheld.

This might sound daft but I actually don't know if I paid ppi on a number of credit cards and a loan I had from years ago. I have some of the statements still but I can't see that I either do, or don't pay it. I have completed questionnaires in any case and will send them off but they were cards I stupidly/naively took out when I was just 18 and am still paying back 12 years later! I would have had no clue what I was signing (I had a zillion store cards also) and would most likely have agreed to anything. Would it be obvious on a statement that I was paying for ppi? I can't find anything :/

If you had PPI it would show as a separate payment on every statement that you got.

Hi, I rang Vanquis today as I had not heard anything from them since my letter 4 weeks ago and I spoke to an awful mannered young man  who told me that my claim (for ROP late payment fees and interest charges) was going to be unsuccesful as they do not offer PPI , when I said I knew my claim was for the ROP and charges and not PPI he said that basically It will go no further and that a letter had been sent to state this- I haven't recieved it yet - has anyone had any experiences like this with Vanquis? :(

ROP stands for repayment option plan. It is different from PPI, which meets monthly payments while ROP does not repay any capital or interest, it just freezes credit card debt. ROP is not insurance, which means it is not regulated by the Financial Services Authority so you cannot complain to the ombudsman about the product. That said, the ombudsman can look at the way ROP is sold — perhaps the policy had been misrepresented or you were told you had to buy it.

I have made a claim from Tesco and they have written to tell me that they would respond within 28 days. This has now passed and I have phoned them last week fot an update and they said there was backlog with claims and that they could not tell me when they would be able to respond should I write to the ombudsman now or what a little while longer. :(
I would leave it with them, the FOS can take a year or more, Tesco will deal with this faster, they have 8 weeks to issue a final response anyway so give them another 4 weeks or so.

Rang santander today to advise I am disputing their refusal to uphold my claim after they have admitted that I had PPI. Advised them I was going to take my claim to the FOS, they advised me it was not in their jurisdiction as was in 2001 and that I would be better writing to FLA?? I have written to both to be on the safe side. Any advice???? Is it worth doing this or am I wasting my time???

    Thanks
    See what the FLA say.

    • What were you reclaiming: Consolidated Loan Credit Cards, Retail Loan
    • Who was the provider: RBS, MBNA; Capital One;Argos; DFS
    • How much did you get back: 11,710.65
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Using template from here
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale
The above figure is what we have agreed to accept, so far only had payment of £2243.65.

The only claim so far that has not been upheld is Argos, which is going to FOS, Capital One still looking into claim & DFS, I have had to resend as first letter was returned "addressee gone away"

I was so sure I did not have ppi & sent a few things off to a claim company, so the RBS Credit Card did have ppi but only that so I need to give the company just under £400 out of my successful £1367 win  They get paid this amount for sending the very same forms I sent after I came across old paperwork & proceeded to claim myself.

Please do not go through a claims company; it really is so easy to do yourself with the help of Martin & all the lovely people on here who are fab :T

Mine doesn't on my loans, its shows as one amount. So I don't think this is always the case, however i am no expert so I *may* be wrong!

Amersall thanks so much for the response the other day where I mentioned I got a letter from Lloyds tsb saying due to high volumes and despite taking in extra staff it could take up to an additional 8 weeks (so 16 in total) to resolve.

I called up yesterday and on the 5th attempt spoke to someone in the UK, the 4 earlier attempts they couldn't understand me (the irony) or were pretending not to understand, i do a lot of public speaking so I assume my scottish accent isnt REALLY strong!)

Anyway when I got through to the UK, they were REALLY helpful, he said they were about halfway through the process, he didnt want to promise anything but looking at it he would guess I would hear within the next 2-3 weeks (making 9-10 weeks since first contact)

I'm trying not to get my hopes up bt this was front loaded PPI of approx £3000 which I paid interest on for 7 years and paid back in full so fingers crossed for me please and thanks again Amersall and all others who take the time to offer advice on here!

The comment from Amersall you replied to here was itself a reply to someone with CREDIT CARD PPI which does indeed always show on monthly statements.
Loans are different, especially where the PPI is front-loaded into a single monthly premium.
