    A+L told me that they would not close my account after I requested my charges back but a week later they closed it and now want me to pay back the £200.30 overdraft, made up of penalty fees and interest on the fees. I just pointed to the Financial Ombudsman had recently awarded £200 in compensation to someone for having their account closed and told them to whistle for it ;) LOL

    I'll let you know what they say once I get a reply to the 19 page fax I sent them and their solicitor :rotfl:

    IKEA CARD = £120 charges = £175 received (146%)
    MARBLES = £450 charges = £370 received (82%)
    I.F. = £494 charges = £494 received (100%)
    CAPITAL ONE = £981 charges = £1,489.03 (152%)
    BARCLAYCARD = £580 charges = £786.12 (136%)
    On Hold :mad:
    A+L = £722 charges (target = 147%)
    BARCLAYS = £1,405 charges (target = 128%)
    BARCLAYS = £175 charges (target = 140%)
    ABBEY = £3,220 charges (target = 148%)

    Alliance & Leicester have closed my account without notice because I asked for copy statements! Havent even asked for the money yet and they tell me that because I asked for the statements I dont agree to their terms and conditions and therefore dont want an account with them so they closed it. Cant get my money out unless they authorise a post office to give it me and I take my ID in! Disgusting.:mad:

    Read this :)

    And tell them that you will call in The Financial Ombudsman, who recently ruled that A&L should pay £200 compensation for closing their account!

    I'll keep this forum posted as to my A&L Claim - its in the MCOL system but they deffended it, although they have just re-credited the last £200 of charges and interest charged to my account! :rotfl:

    I am loving this site! We are in the process of claiming bank charges from several banks - totalling around £5,500. But my partner has an Additions account with Barclays with an Advance option attached to it. We have used this advance to the maximum (£4,500) and would like to know whether Barclays are likely to ask for this to be repaid if we ask for the charges back.

    Does anyone have any experience of this?

    thanks in anticipation!

    All you have to do is just open a basic account somewhere, anywhere 'just in case' the bank closes your account for reclaiming. If they don't close your account then you can continue as normal, the parachute account doesn't have to be used

  • Hi all,

    I had a successful claim in which First Direct were very prompt and no quibbles - they even said that the enclosed cheque for £10 was not required and to ensure it was destroyed/cancelled!. With that success under my belt (I have only been with FD 3 years) I approached Nationwide (who I have banked with for 20 years) intending to use the standard letter approach which I know works from the FD experience.

    Unfortunately for me in my request for a list of charges letter I forgot to enclose the £10 cheque, which Nationwide were very quick(reply within 3 days) in pointing out by returning the letter. I immediately returned my letter with the cheque 23/6/07 and am still waiting for some sort of acknowledgement. No 3 days promptness here . I have noticed that my cheque has been processed on the 7th. Customer realtions appears to be rather lacking with the bank I thought would have been more forthcoming, whatever the initial result.

    I just wonder if, as some Nationwide account holders have already experienced, my account days are numbered and await the chop.

    Will persevere, and fingers crossed, hopefuly a more positive update will be posted later.
  • I have 2 questions and I wonder if anyone can help me. I am considering reclaiming from Barclays for my student acount charges they kept putting upon me, however I have an overdraft with them and cant afford to lose it. What is barclays reputation with regards to closing accounts?

    Second question, can we reclaim against credit cards that charged us, even if we have closed the account. If you can, how would one go about it?
    Thanks :rotfl:

    well good news from a+l today they are giving me a refund for £506.00 when i asked for £359.00? second time i have claimed from them,first time was £1009,00 they kept taking monies from my child tax credit so i quoted social administration act 1992,well this letter they have sent they saying you may have seen media reports that some banks have considered closing certain accounts where the customer has complained about bank charges.well would like to re-assure you that this is not our policy and if you execept this offer of settlement we will continue to operate your account. why are they being so nice? you think they would close my account they have done this to plenty of people on this thread .:D :T
