Instructions to Lock nokia 6630 on 2g/O2 when using Three/3.
http://www.symbian-freak.com/quides/netmon.htm
Download the program above, and send the SIS file to your phone via bluetooth (setting up bluetooth wireless transfer I cant help with, sorry!).
1) Go to messaging, then inbox.
2) Select the bluetooth message you just received (should say something like operatorFtdwk39v7.sis).
3) Will come up with message "Unable to verify supplier. Continue anyway". Select Yes.
4) "Install Ftd" - Yes.
5) Options menu - go for install.
6) Select where you want to install it (mem card or phone mem)
7) Menu bar will come up indicating progress
8) You'll be returned to messages. Leave and turn the phone off, and back on again.
9) Go to the menu - at the bottom there will be a new icon shaped like a bug (at first I thought Id just installed a virus, but I was wrong). Open it.
10) You'll be presented with a screen full of technical stuff. Dont edit anything. Go to options, then "change display".
11) Enter 8101. The following screen will come up:
Force protocol between GSM and WCDMA.
0-dual
1-GSM
2-WCDMA
0
12) Your phone will be locked to 0 (dual) which means it switches between 2g and 3g. To lock it to 2G, options, execute, 1, ok. To return it back to auto-select, do the same but instead of putting 1, put 0.
13) After selecting OK the phone will reset. After its finished, turn the phone off and back on again.
14) It may take a minute or two to find the 2g signal but it will. 02 on 3's tarrif! Perfect!0 -
Thanks DMDz
Reading your posts convinced me to take the chance with the 3 network / Nokia 6630. I've had it for about a week using it in north/central london and so far haven't had problems with connection0 -
Thanks for the Feedback Don, it makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one who thinks 3 are good!
How’d you get on Tich?0 -
Thanks for asking DMDz, I'm afraid that I went for the Samsung D500 deal from e2save @ £4.99 for 200 minutes. What finally clinched it was £4.99 for 12 months, too cheap to pass up. If I find that I cannot get by with 200 minutes and the Nokia 6630 deal becomes even cheaper I will take that too. I have stored the details you posted on how to lock the Nokia onto 2G for future reference, will keep my eye on deals at OSPS & e2save.0

my Nokia 6630 deal was with one stop phone shop - (600 text & talk) £14.99 for 10 mnths and £30 for the last two months through one stop shop - just seen dial a phone offer £4.99 for 7 months and £30 for the last 5 months which works out £30 cheaper and one stop shop will price match this- there are cheaper offers on other phones but I wanted to be on the safe side by getting a nokia phone0

once you have selected number 1 (GSM mode), does it always stay there ? what if you call someone who is in a 3g zone? will it change automatically to 3g even though you have selected 1 (gsm mode)?0
-
Once you select 1 it'll ignore 3g like it isnt there - technically you'll have an o2 simcard. So yes, you can call anyone.0
-
There have been some reports by some people that whenever you switch your phone off and then turn it on, it automatically changes back to dual mode. Is this true?0
-
I wouldent know, never gets turned off. I'll try it later on when ive got a free minute.0
-
ok, sure, please let us know how it turned out, thanks0
