Instead of no spend months, what about switching to a day at a time then you’re not setting yourself to fail. Don’t put a target…take it day by day.

Happy Monday. We had an amazing thunderstorm this morning. The sky went black and the heavens opened. The lightening lit up my office a few times and the power went off, but luckily straight back on again.
Despite me being pretty darn boring I think I do need to report in every day as I have been terrible recently (this year in fact) and need you lovely lot to keep me honest. My savings account which was a safe emergency £1k is now sitting at £300. I did open a stocks and shares isa, so that has £200 in it..but this still leaves me with half what I had. My pots are so low the tumbleweed rolls past when I look at them 😣 and my account has £80 in it to last me to the end of August.
on the plus side, we bought a new washer dryer (ours was leaking and old) at £400 each and I have £455 waiting to pay my car insurance when it renews on the 20th. I have my car fund sitting in pb’s, which although it isn’t nearly enough for the car I want, it could happily cover a boring car if anything were to happen to mine (which touch wood it won’t).  We got the fridge freezer last month, so I do have something’s to show for my money, but not enough things if you know what I mean. I would be embarrassed to tot up the idiocy right now!
So, I actually don’t need to buy anything this month. The pet and treat cupboards are heaving and we’ll be fine for months. MrWW does the normal food shopping. I have loads of unread books on my kindle. It’s usually the boredom and general fed up ness that gets me spending, so I need to combat that. I have signed back into prolific and have £2 balance in there already, so will try and earn extra on there and I may just use any earnings there to boost my little isa. What I need is a challenge I think.
The sun is shining now…which is good as I still have 6000 steps to find after sitting on my bum most of the day. I did go on the walking pad at lunch for 20 mins.
I hope you have all had a good day.

Oh and update…the Purdy & Figg set arrived and I like it. It’s maybe not as lingering a scent as advertised, but it’s pretty good!

Good luck with getting back on track.  Everyone thinks their own diaries are boring (including me!) but we enjoy reading the same minutiae on other people's diaries, and if they help us keep on track, then that can only be a good thing!

  • Ha I basically just posted on my diary that you need a challenge but in politer terms 😁

You’ve had some big expenses and at least you had the cash there and it’s not ended up on a cc.
    You can do it 👍

Thanks everyone. Yes the money was there for the big things, which I am so grateful for, thanks for the reminder milann. I never think other’s diaries are boring jwil..just mine 😬
And pip, politeness isn’t my strong suit 😅 This is why I wonder about financing things…I know owing for something would drive me mad and I’d be driven to clear it off, but savings are so tricky for me. It makes no sense!! Especially when saving for something saves so much money on interest. I do need a challenge (or maybe an obsession) just to keep me engaged with something. I realise there are a lot of ‘somethings’ there, but I just don’t know what the something is 🤯 (send help) 😅

  • Would the dog cope with being left alone with Mr WW for a long weekend? Or manage to go with you if you rented a ground floor Airbandb with an outdoor space if you drove? You could save up for a long weekend away, you need a change of scenery

WW dog can’t jump in the car any more 😢 and refuses to be boosted. I’m not sure a long weekend away appeals … call me awkward!
I do really like the cinema so I am keeping an eye on what’s on. Ours is a tiny one, so they have odd times and mostly cater for kids and blockbusters. As it’s small they don’t have them on for long so I am keeping an eye on the updates.

Good morning and happy Wednesday. MrWW is back at work today after his much longer holidays. It’s always a sad day when he’s tasted freedom, but it does mean that tea needs to be made later and will give me some extra steps time after work.
I was watching money saving people on youtube yesterday lunchtime and last night to refresh my purpose…sadly it led to me ordering a book on the subject at £18. I was thinking a proper book on my desk to dip into would refresh my purpose each day, but honestly that’s £18 spent 🤔 When will I learn 😬 Hopefully this is the last of my silliness for a while! I can’t do much silly with my depleted funds for august anyway, so maybe sucking up the no spend rest of the month through necessity (and the determination not to remove anything from the car pot) will set me on course so next month can be sensible.
Today I have no real plans apart from work, house jobs, getting some steps in and hopefully getting some washing done and hung out while it’s nice. Three of the cats are either sitting on me or staring at me, so I think it must be time to get up and do breakfasts before it turns violent 😁
I hope you all have an excellent day ⭐️
