The Basics range of Onion Chutney is amazing. They also do a tomato chutney too, but the onion chutney is my fave. Shame Sainsburys refuse to deliver to my flat, as they are not allowed to climb three flights of stairs to deliver and there is no lift, so I get Tesco and Asda deliveries, and have to trek to Sainsburys for supplies of onion chutney.0

:rotfl:We buy all the basics stuff apart from tea bags & loo roll.
BTW - the butter is fine but 88p as opposed to willow which is only 65p!
LOL @ the sandwich boxes they were giving away. We got 2 and even DH hasn't been able to open them! What a great offer that was lol.
SK x
HAHAHAHA - this happened to us as well. We can open them but can't put the lid back on. Haven't been able to use them once :rotfl:Mortgage FreeSave £5,000 in 2020[CENTER:j0 -
A katylou6180 & family review of current sainsburys basics-a three week trial:
Croissants....can't tell the difference
Chocolate Fudge Cake....90p??!! husband and son can't get enough!
Bread- Do not bother.....dry, as all value breads are, buy what's on offer!!
Fruit & Veg- more or less all excellent quality apart from basics apples if you want these to eat DO NOT BUY...dry scaly skins and bitty flesh...maybe it's not their fault, just the variety of apples that's cheapest at the time!
FROZEN garlic bread, the fresh stuff did not cut it for us, the frozen however is brilliant!
Diced Pork-slow cooker, casserole, need I say more...for two quid you can't go wrong!
Toilet Rolls, you wipe...you flush...it does not give your rear a hug but does the job!
Baguettes....same as other brands and cheaper
Ham..as above
Crisps...found them comparable to other supermarkets "own brand not value brand"
Eggs....excellent
Bacon....bit hit and miss, you buy a packet, sometimes you will get rashers, others you sometimes have er...thicker rashers resembling a chop!!! Not good to rely on for a bacon sarnie on a sunday but will do for everything else and in cooking(this is the unsmoked bacon not the "cooking bacon"..where I would expect offcuts")
Food bags, bin liners, very fragile!!
Toilet cleaner, clung where no-one has clung before!!! and very little scrubbing needed
Muffins.....very nice indeed and very soft
Frozen Chicken burgers, were ok apparently, but I can't vouch for them myself, was junk eating husband.
Sausages...very sagey,I gave them a chance, would not use them in dinners but for an emergency sausage butty after a hangover they're ok..when you're really not worried about the ceee rap you are eating.
Fresh Mince, if you are like me and do cook, drain...make meal, it's fine, just never oil the pan!
Instant mash...same as others...very little use in here tho!
Baked beans, little extra sauce but not swimming
Beans and sausages...never swimming...really thick
Corned beef (cold meats) no jelly...just corned beef...thick slices
Corned beef (tin) as above...opened a tin and looked in shock!!
Tinned fruit in Juice- all of them are lovely!
Natural yoghurt-lovely with the fruit, and not too tart
Will update as we use more....think I am converted0 -

Re the tinned corned beef, did you mean it was nice and lean with not a lot of fat (or as little as there can be in corned beef)?

Just tried Basics Gravy Granules last night. Absolutely horrible- made, lumpy, strangely colourless gravy with no overriding taste other than salt.
The first Basics thing I'd say to absolutely avoid at all costs...0 -
The fruit cocktail & tomato soup is fine.
Though not in the same bowl....0 -
Items I've liked from the Sainsburys basics range:
Bacon
Soups
Crisps - very good, hard to stop snacking on them haha
Chocolate buttons - 38p a packet, very good value for money and tastes better than the Cadburys version!
Cookies
Fruit cocktail/orange juice - very nice
Cornflakes - was a bit hesitant to buy these ages ago, but did and they were good.
Bread
Beans - don't really taste of anything but okay if you fancy a quick beans on toast meal.
There's a few others but can't think of them at the moment, will edit post when I do0 -
I love asda myself, not a fan of Tesco.0
