Today my DH went shopping and instead of our usual tins of basic plum tomatoes @ 31p a tin, they had only cartons of basic chopped tomatoes @ 35p a pack (both 400g).
I had only been reading about this yesterday in The Grocer that Sainsburys are changing their basics tins for cartons as it's more environmentally friendly. I'm pretty sure my local council don't recycle these tetra pack-style cartons because of the foil inside.

Sounds more like cost cutting tbh. I'd bet the tin cans cost them more to make and to ship then the cartons would- and maybe they are going to use plastic type cartons like the ones on "fresh" soups? (the "fresh" soups that you find along the tinned aisle by companies like Lloyd Grosnan and Taste The Difference)0 -
We buy all the basics stuff apart from tea bags & loo roll.
BTW - the butter is fine but 88p as opposed to willow which is only 65p!
LOL @ the sandwich boxes they were giving away. We got 2 and even DH hasn't been able to open them! What a great offer that was lol.

I saw those cartons earlier in the week - our local council don't recycle them either but the local Tesco has a recycling point for them - might be worth checking out if you have one near.......0
