I just tried the meat free Chicken style veggie burgers, said they were new and for a £1 for 4. A little on the small side but still yummy!!

Got these coming in my delivery today.
Most things I buy are Basics, though I've kept away from the peas as I read bad things on here!

Part baked bagettes (spell) are nice and so are tinned tomatoes and basics oranges (small ones)

I love the basics baguettes. You can make a reall easy garlic bread if you crush some garlic into butter then cut slits in the top of the bread, smear the butter into the slits and then pop in the oven and cook as normal.
    Yummy! :D

In the summer we had loads of the basic corn on the cob which was the only fresh corn still in it's leaves. Hope they get more this year

I don't think they have hiked the price of the Basics tinned tomatoes. I used to buy them when they were 17p a tin - about 2 years ago? - and thought they are now 35p they are still 10p -15p cheaper than any other tinned toms I can find.

That is a 100% increase/the price has doubled.
If that isn't a hike I don't know what is, even if they are still a bit cheaper than the next

    First post!

    Basics I have tried:-

Bread - Good for toast and occasional sandwich. Slices are very thin.
Garlic Bread - Served this up at a party recently. It went down well!
    Bacon - Good.
Cream of tomato soup - Lovely, tastes like the more expensive selections
Fruit cocktail - In natural juice. Very nice. I expected this to be full of juice and little fruit...not the case.
Rice Pud - Expected this to be runny with little rice....again, not the case...very tasty and packed with rice.
Toilet Paper - It does the job and you flush it away. Why spend more?
Kitchen Roll - As above...does the job...why pay more for fancy patterns?
Dark and Milk chocolate - Great and very morish.
Digestive Biscuits - See above just the occasional packet.
    Pickled Onions - Nice.
Coleslaw - Nice and as good as other brands.
Pizza - Fine but I like to add a bit more grated cheese.
Apples - I actually prefer basics apples to other varieties.
Soft Spread - I use this on sandwiches and toast. Tastes like other more expensive spreads.
Tomatoes - So they are different sizes.....still tasty and juicy.

I will be buying all of these again.

Chicken Curry - Mild but very nice. Obviously not as much chicken as the brand higher up the price scale but tasty all the same.
Orange Juice - Was a bit too sweet for me.
  • Most of the basics items are fine but I have to warn people against buying the basic pickled onions which I did 2 days before Christmas just because the shelves were empty for the other brands. I thought "oh they should be ok its just onions in vinegar".

They were disgusting! I like to pride myself on not wasting food but I threw them away. Soft, soggy and the vinegar didn't even taste like vinegar just a strange watery substance.
  • I found the pickle onions to be ok but just that. They were like silverskin pickled onions with very little strength to the vinegar. I guess it depend on how strong your onions and i prefer mine to be stronger!

I tried the tomato soup yesterday and, sadly, can't recommend it. It's not even close to Heinz. Probably OK for cooking though.

That's how I found the onions. I think the previous poster must have just had a dodgy jar. Mine were fine, if a little underwhelming...

I won't bother again, much prefer the strong, brown onion variety, but they were alright for what they were...
