Hi
I have just registered with MSE today after pondering the mattress buying world for 2 days now I think I need more advice. I have only ever slept on awful old matresses never bought a new one myself and can actually feel the springs in mine so not good!
I went into Bensons yesterday to get an idea and lay on a few which had the memory foam layer - which I liked.
(although couldn't beleive how awful the sales woman was in there - she talked absolute rubbish and even me, a mattress novice could see through it - when I asked how a 100% foam mattress was different to the "reactafoam" ones she told me its new technology, when I tried to get her to explain to which she repeated, "its new technology, what all the athletes use"!!!!) What?! I walked out. Anyway enough moaning.
From what I can gather from Tim Deegan threads, I think I want a pocket sprung (not sure how many?) with a memory foam layer top and bottom 2" is best I beleive? I like a medium feel. I need a double.
Can I get a good one for £300? or should I be spending more? I can't find many with double sided mem foam (no turning reqd - they all seem to say non-turn which makes me think this is standard now?)
I'm going to take the gamble and order off the internet without trying if it means I can save money and as I have never had a great mattress I think what I get will be an improvement. Any advice/help or mattress suggestions much appreciated (I know you can't advertise!).

Welcome povster
You can do much worse than use Tim's advice to get a good deal. The criteria you've mentioned is about spot on for your budget. Spring count over 1000 would be good, definately mem.foam top & bottom (they are out there! Non-turn are only becoming the norm in large chain suppliers that want customers to come back sooner!), and medium feel is common so availability should be good.
Check with the internet suppliers returns policy before ordering, but i'd have no trouble ordering that way to save (quite) a few bucksas long as the mattress is advertised correctly you'll get a good deal that way. Previously recommended brands have been Harrison, Kozeesleep, Restus, Relyon, La Romantica & Staples (Myers). Do some searches on those and see what you can find perhaps?

Hi all. I'm in need of a new mattress, I've got about £200-£250 to spend for a kingsize. I know this isn't a lot so am I right in thinking I should look for a decent quality cage sprung rather than trying to get a cheap pocket sprung mattress?
I spotted this:
http://www.mattressman.co.uk/myers/mattresses/mattresses/king_size/P826S0L/luxury_comfort.aspx
which looks decent to me, but then I haven't really got a clue:p
I think I know the manufacturers to look out for but are there any features/specs I should look out for in a cage sprung or are they all pretty much of a muchness?
I keep seeing things about guage, rods, bonnell springs? but its all gibberish to me:rolleyes:
Thanks0 -
Thanks TiTheRev - starting the search on those brands now! Will update!0

The 'cage-sprung' is a version ive not heard of, but guess it's a variation on coil sprung? Coils prung would be the way to go, and for the money you'd be far better getting a good coil sprung version than low-end pocket sprung one. Myers are the poorer cousin of the Staples group so th one you link to wont be top quality, and I reckon that with more research you could find a better deal for the money...:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. We have been having the same dilema (king size) but thanks to this site I found the following mattress which sounds the same as what you are looking for:
La Romantica Venice or La Romantica Madrid. Both the same but one is softer than the other and one is a bet more expensive.
I will be placing my order for the Venice model very soon!
The website ou found also offers you a 14 day return or exchange.
Looked at all the other recommended makes but they are all non turn which we don't want, this is the only one with memory foam on both sides.
Good luck!0
