So my conclusion is a double sided/pocket sprung/memory mattress for £300 doesn't exist? I shall carry on trawling until I get sick of looking (quite soon!)
    Thanks Tim

what about a pocket sprung mattress and buying a seperate topper? Its one type we are thinking of. Its all very well saying this wont last thats no good, and "there are better out there for less" but no one seems to be coming up with what and where you can get it! Of course we could get a La Romantica mattress, and take the gamble that we will like it, but the amount of mattresses we have tried in the last few days tells us that no two are the same and its a very personal choice.

As far as I know it doesn't exist.

Toppers are ok if you have a good mattress but want to try out memory foam. However there is a lot of development goes into designing a good quality mattress, making sure all the components work well together. So mattresses with the memory foam built in tend to be far better than using a topper as an add on.

I've never owned a topper myself, but I have been told by loads of people who used a topper to try out memory foam, then bought a mattress with it built in, that the ones with it built in were far superior.

We bought a Silent Night mattress about 2 years ago to use in our rented flat on a very old bed frame (from landlord). When we bought our own place we got a cheap bed base (with pine slats) from Argos and used the existing mattress. In the last few months we've noiced what seem like deep dips in the mattress (obviously where we each lie). I'm wondering if you think this may have been caused by the quality of either the bed base or the mattress itself?
Reason i ask is we were contemplating upgrading our bed to a superking size but thinking of buying the same bed base as we already have (but bigger) - we like the design. Obviously, if it's likely to be the bed base thats ruined the mattress then we'll look elsewhere!
    Thanks in advance

I would take an educated guess and say it's the mattress. Silentnight mattresses are carp! My son and d-i-l had one and two years is probably the most you can expect from it. Do a forum search for Silentnight and also look at the thread "Which Mattress" which is a sticky in the I Wanna Buy It forum.

    Hi Tim/anyone,
Any thoughts on this one? (apart from it being one sided)
Kozeesleep Max Pocket - 1000 pocket springs and 5cm memory foam
    £370

    Cheers

Well apart from as you say, it is one sided. The memory foam is low density at 55kg per m3, and is 7cm deep, not 5cm.

The optimum depth is 2" (50mm), and no more than 2.5" (63mm).

    Thanks for the reply Tim.

I have purchased this mattress but am unable to find out the density of the memory foam. I have a put a link on it below and was wondering if you had any comments on it.

    Many thanks
