It seems to be that there are alot of people on this forum who are incredibly smug and who have nothing but cruel words to say to people who are currently suffereing as a result of the house price situation

Actually many of these people are losers themselves: years ago they wrongly speculated that prices would fall and sold their homes, hoping later on to buy back in at a lower price and make a killing.

Instead, prices accelerated and beforee long they were priced out of the market totally and were forced to rent. This is why they hate BTL landlords so much - they resent the fact they are being forced to pay off the landlords' mortgages.

Now they see a chance to recoup their position, so they are posting all over the net in an effort to increase gloom and pessimism and drive prices down further. This is the only way they can afford to get back on the ladder themselves.

They are rather a pathetic group IMHO - what comes across as smugness often hides something a lot closer to desperation.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

Some waking up and smelling coffee for some folk I reckon. Sorry just fell out of the HPC area. What goes round, you'll get yours etc etc RUBBISH. Fate is where it's at. I could write a small boring book on it. Noah fence. No time for the sitters either. PS I agree with Edinvestors input.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

When younger, I didn't really get this phrase, but now I'm older and have lived a bit more, i see it as 'Do as you would be done by'.

Generous in time and spirit does pay back.

I agree with all that. "Do as you would be done by" is a great way to live, as is doing charity work, helping old ladies across the street, etc. In fact, it's better to do that type of thing not expecting it to come back and benefit you!

Very distressing if you think about this sort of thing but there's a time and a place and we can all do our bit when we can - even if it doesn't make a difference. We'd all end up on Prozac if we dwelled on the horrors in the world all the time.
I was trying to give poor Lizzie a keyboard hug. Don't like to see people upset. Save your lectures for the appropriate forum. Is there one where people can depress each other? Oh, maybe this is one of those; I was forgetting the subject.

Aren't you charming? Some of us do indeed "do our bit". I spend a substantial percentage of my life dealing with people who have been through the most awful stuff. I'm working, tonight, on an emergency case for a woman who was gang-raped over 3 days by 30-odd men. Doesn't mean I'm nasty to you.

I certainly wouldn`t take glee in anyone loosing their homes. I was afraid of loosing mine in the early 90`s. I also have warned people to keep a grip on the real relationship of money, do not buy what you cannot afford.

I agree. I don't like the thought of some couple with kids, or some single worker, worried about losing their homes because they were too optimistic about borrowing in an inflated economy.

I'd far rather it had never happened.

I'm a bit less sympathetic to people who bought 10 flats off-plan to "flip" them.

He / She implies that some on this thread are dull, groggy and are boring...as knitting is the sort of hobby that takes time to deliver anything ...and then, a small bit of knitting. Not a hobby like sky diving...zany, fun, exciting.

I do both kinds of things. I love sailing, surfing, flying in tiny planes. I also can knit, and do patchwork :T

Thanks. I'd have not made those connections.

Knitting: safe, dependable, follow instructions and you get the correct end result.
Skydiving: risky, dangerous, anything can happen.

    You know which I'd pick.
    :)

Pick both! Variety is the spice of life.

Some are like me - couldn't have bought a house in 2001, etc, and when they could in 2005 or 2006, decided to wait.
