Why are some people on here being so nasty?

That isn't an example.
That is another board entirely.
That is the DIY board.
This is the housing board.
Almost mutually exclusive.0 -
the Internet is part of lives rich tapestry. Do what you would do if you met these people in real life - ignore them. There is a button for it - we don't needs thread.0

Agree totally, though you would think they would have learnt from being on the wrong side what it felt like, then again, that's human beings, as a species we don't learn. While I agree that this is never a need for insults or smugness, it does have to be said that while HPI was rampant there were never too many kind words spared for those looking to get on the housing ladder. The economy going down the pan is not a great position for any of us to be in and I'm sure some of the comments are born out of a lack of knowledge of how much this could affect them.
True, there has been much cheering for plummeting houseprices, and jubilation at rising inflation as a means to speeding it along, unfortunately inflation is not something you can just turn off when it's done the job you want, as inflation charges on, the economy heads for recession and unemployment starts to mount, people start to strike for more pay, it might just be that although the prices of houses are much lower they may not actually be anymore afordable for the majority.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

inflation of all kinds is bad
even house price inflationIt's a health benefit ...0 -
Works for me that phrase, "What goes around comes around." In my mind it changes to "You'll get yours." ...........But I'm too polite to say that to people, especially the boss at work!
I don't think it happens, though. Life has winners and losers - take the 15th child born to some poor African woman with advanced AIDS, no medicine, no access to clean water, or enough food. Isn't coming round fast!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Actually, there is now a thread in the pets forum which makes everyone here look very mild. Gosh, people do like to be RIGHT don't they?0

If people have nothing constuctive or sympathetic to offer those people who are currently loosing sleep, worrying, feeling depressed and upset because they are facing real financial trouble at the moment then they would be better posting no reply at all.
There is alot of bad feeling towards buy to let investors, but please remember that there are alot of people out there who struggled to buy their only home in the last year or so, work hard, saved hard, did nothing wrong, and are now up the creek without a paddle.
They need sympathy and support, not cruel wisecracks and smugness from those of you who are fortunate enought not to be in this unhappy situation.
What you fail to mention is that many people who have been suffering will welcome falling house prices, probably the majority will benefit from them.
Would you really think that those people who cannot afford a decent home for themselves and their children because of the greed and stupidity of BTLers and others who have driven prices to unsustainable levels are going to feel sympathy for the amateur landlord who wanted to make a quick buck.
The suffering and sleepless nights that many will experience are necessary so they learn an important lesson the hard way. A few months ago you would be shouted down for even suggesting house prices could fall - anyone who posted that was shunted off to a single thread whilst first time buyers were encouraged to hurry hurry hurry and get on the housing ladder before they miss out.
Anyone who borrowed what they can afford to repay will sleep soundly. People who borrowed what they cannot afford or BTLers who thought the value of their investment only goes up, well they will get no sympathy from me.
Affordable homes that people can afford and still have money left over to have a life with are a good thing, not something bad.0 -
When younger, I didn't really get this phrase, but now I'm older and have lived a bit more, i see it as 'Do as you would be done by'.Works for me that phrase, "What goes around comes around." In my mind it changes to "You'll get yours." ...........But I'm too polite to say that to people, especially the boss at work!
I have known some people for many years and they are definately now living lives very connected to their behaviour towards others.
In my 20's, a selfish (in spirit) person was seen as quite smart and savvy, out for No 1 and all that. 2 decades on, no-one shares (time and emotional energy I mean) with them anymore.
Generous in time and spirit does pay back.
I don't think this board is that bad at all...a little fierce sometimes and, some comments, when written down, can come over as a bit thoughtless.....but then I deal with the general public everyday so I must be thick skinned.
Always someone who wants to talk down to you (just to make themselves feel impt.....oooh lets bully a 'shopgirl') but, it doesn't bother me anymore.
Difference of opinion is what makes this forum....boring if we all agree.0 -

God, yes! I once was so bold as to say something about delinquent dogs on the Greenfingered Board & got well hammered for it.0 -

Very distressing if you think about this sort of thing but there's a time and a place and we can all do our bit when we can - even if it doesn't make a difference. We'd all end up on Prozac if we dwelled on the horrors in the world all the time.neverdespairgirl wrote: »I don't think it happens, though. I was trying to give poor Lizzie a keyboard hug. Don't like to see people upset. Save your lectures for the appropriate forum. Is there one where people can depress each other? Oh, maybe this is one of those; I was forgetting the subject.0
